Yanks in on Olivera?
The Yanks are reportedly in on Cuban 2B Hector Olivera. Olivera is 29 and said to possess a middle of the order bat. Of course, this is the wrong Cuban to re-enter the market with and Moncada is the correct Cuban. It would also probably turn Refnsyder into trade bait. Don't get me wrong, he's supposeduly a very good player, but we'd be getting him at the wrong time. We'll see what happens. Moncada is still the prize.

On the bright side, the Rays are signing Asdrubal Cabrera, so that's one less threat to screw up.
If he was a SS, I would want them to be all over him. At 2B, no.
He would improve the offense without giving up a pick.
He would block Refs.
SD needs a CF. What plus Gardner coukd get Myers?
Montero dropped 30 lb.
If Cashman wants to demonstrate that he isn't a rigid fool who can't adapt to the changing baseball environment, go get him:

Why are we even considering going after a 29 year old, when it seems that the whole idea of the last several trades is to get younger?
There is one reason I would consider signing him and that would be as a quid pro quo in order to sign Moncada, for example, if they had a relationship, or if he felt uncomfortable because the Yankees have ignored fellow Cubans, but that is it.
Refsnyder should open up in SWB to work on his defense
He would improve the O, so that's cool, but I don't think he and Moncada have the same reps, which might facilitate the quid pro quo.
Though, having a Cuban or two in the system might be a decider for a 19 year old.
Defense is overrated.
