Giants: Coughlin to Return

Reports are circulating that TC has been told he'll be back, at the same time, he is scheduled to meet today with Jerry Reese and John Mara to discuss the rest of the staff.  Could get tumultuous if there is resistance to TC's part to replace some of the suboptimal coaches.   May not know till tomorrow.

Has there ever been a supposedly "great" coach who has hired so many shitty coordinators?

John is Wellington, sadly.

And as I said, even though I think Coughlin is overrated, that there is almost no mention of Reese's job status is ridiculous.

No one could have won with the talent that he has assembled.

Now add back the 22 guys on IR and the 5 games we gave away without various numbers of them. The talent assembled was not available for much of the year.

And they're coming off two really good drafts in a row.

If you go back further there were career ending and altering injuries to a bunch of their best picks, like Wilson, Nicks, Thomas and Phillips. Plus the S from LSU who never played a game because of the car wreck, It's been bad luck more than bad management.

Garafolo is hinting about a Spags return

I've been hearing Spags for weeks, but who knows?

I also hope you are hearing, that Quinn is gone, and that we will be aggressive in FA. Anything less without removing TC is suboptimal IMO.

Players get injured in football, but the primary reason for the lack of talent is poor drafting for most of the years since 2007.

As for injuries, Beason and Jennings have been hurt a lot in their careers.

Yet they somehow thought that would change?

Unless Spags understands and readily accepts going in that McAdoo is the heir apparent, because he probably is, then he is a bad fit.

I still think a 69 year old makes no sense for a team in transition.

As long as they get a good DC, they'll be done with transition and good again next season. I disagree about most of the draft picks and had Phillips and other others stayed healthy the Giants would have been much better.

Id like RR as the DC but know that the Giants would never go for it .With that said Spags would be great.

Yes, you definitely think they are closer than I do, and that Reese is the right man to get them there. I think he has shown that is good as the #2 man but not as the GM.

5 of 6 years of not making the playoffs is a fireable offense, imo.

It unfair for a head coach who said on the day he was hired that injuries are a state of mind (in a clear diss of Fassel) to not be held accountable for injuries.

Oh, and by close I mean an elite team. They can make the playoff if everything went right, but in terms of being a loaded team that can dictate to the opposition on both sides of the ball? No, I don't see that as being close.

As for ST, that has been broken for years without any consequence.

Lawyer, my whole philosophy is to not make the playoffs until you are loaded up enough to run the table. I'll take the higher pick over a one and done or two and through playoff team every time.

LJN Fassel had baggage that was kept under covers. It also cost him a HC job with Chicago.

Yeah, he's like a super stud or something. But that doesn't excuse Coughlin's comments when he was hired, and it doesn't change the fact that he should be held accountable for that statement. But Mara doesn't care as long as they win some meaningless games toward the end of the season.
