Yanks Making a Trade?
So far, we know the Yanks have traded Shawn Kelley for MiLB RHP Johnny Barbato of the Padres. Barbato's been in AA and I believe he also pitched in the AFL. 6th rounder from the 2010 draft, fastball/curveball. Wonder if this is part of something bigger.
UPDATE, haven't seen anything from "trusted" source on this.
Okay, looks like it's real as some of the Yankee sources are talking about it. They sure are getting younger.

This makes them younger, which they need to do, so without knowing anything about this guy, it could be good.
I found this:

18) John Barbato, RHP, Grade C+: 1.84 ERA with 84 strikeouts and 52 hits in 73 innings in Low-A on basis of blistering fastball and good curve. Needs better command (31 walks) but definite closer possibilities.

A sixth-round draft pick from 2010, Padre Prospect John Barbato is one of the team's nastiest young relief prospects. Barbato struck out 84 in 73 low-A innings, though he showed his rawness by also walking 31. One of Colorado's premium closing prospects, he's definitely most valuable as a late-inning specialist of some type: that hammer curve works best as a strikeout pitch when mixed in with his max-effort fastball, a sizzling mid-90's offering with high-90's potential. Matt Stites is probably ahead of him on the depth chart right now, but there's nothing to suggest the two could combine to form a devastating late-inning combo for the future Padres.
Again, when it appears that they do something right I can easily give them credit, however infrequent that is.
They bought low on Kelley, and then probably increased his value.
So this is a good model.
Can they follow it by getting some impact offense?????
I thought this might be the bottom edge of an Ian Kennedy trade when I first heard about it.
The Padres are in win-now mode. They don't need OF (I wish we had their group), so I am not sure what the Yankees have without involving a third team that would interest them.
That aside, I want a path to be open for at least one of Mitchell, Banuelos, and Severino, one that doesn't not involve injuries to Tanaka and Pineda.
Curry says he made need TJ surgery. That puts a different slant on this since that is not an automatic recovery.

Yanks consider Barbato solid, young power arm, although he may need TJ surg. Kelley is 1 yr from FA. Traded 1 yr Kelley for Barbatos future.
It opened up a spot on the 40...
If they care about that why did they sign Crapuano?
I hear a lot Cole Hamels talk and I hope it doesn't happen because Judge is a sure gonner if it does.
That would fit right in with their twisted mentality, in other words why use your best asset, your financial advantage? That would make too much sense.
And they may need some news to distract from Meanwell!s trial.
