Knicks Making a Trade

The Knicks have traded JR Smith, Samuel Dalembert and Iman Shumpert in a three way deal with Cavaliers and Thunder.   It's unclear what the Knicks have gotten back.   Could be something, could just be trade exceptions.

UPDATE: The Knicks are getting back three scrubs that will waive and a future second rounder.  Also, Samuel Dalembert was waived rather than traded.   So, as soon as all the new players are waived the Knicks will have 3 spaces to add Galloway and whoever else they're keen on.

FURTHER UPDATE:  I appears that the Knicks might be getting a future 1 instead of a 2.   Still doesn't seem to make sense.

MORE:  Now seems like the Knicks get a future 1 and 2, the three scrubs they will waive, and two trade exceptions worth 2.5M and 6M respectively.

STILL MORE: The Knicks didn't get the 1.  They only got a 2019 2.

Salary space for next year. JR had money due next year.

My comment came just before your update.

I think Knicks are getting Reggie Jackson -- who is definitely not a scrub.

Hope this is true.

Looks like JR + Iman to Cle

Waiters + Dalembert to OKC

What to knicks?!!

Everyone is saying they are not getting Reggie Jackson. That would be a home run.

i don't see how they get scrubs and a 2nd -- OKC isn't getting Waiters for free..

Seems that we are getting a guy - Lance Thomas - from the Thunder. He is a Brooklyn, NY boy. Maybe they keep him around.

Regardless, they clear off JR's salary of $6.4 million, as well as Shumps Qualifying Offer for next year.

My guess is Galloway and Thanasus A. come up from the D-League.

It really irks me that teams demand we include our 1st rounder in most trades but we can never get one back. We should be in full blown rebuild but because we throw away unprotected 1st rounders that is impossible. This signing free agent thing has not worked or any other plan over the last 20 years +.

They are in a full rebuild.

If they are going to be really good any time soon they will have to win the lottery.

Unfortunately, they are limited because Grunwald traded an unprotected one for Bargniani, yet he still earns a living in basketball.

What this traded demonstrates is how badly they wanted to traded JR. That's why they didn't get a one.

And btw, That contract was on Grunwald as well.

Grunwald also signed Chris smith! He also picked up Chauncey Billups option and then amnestied him so we can sign Tyson chandler! Imagine if he just declined the option, signed chandler and then amnestied amare or Felton? Jeez.

As for this trade, I'm fine with it. Cap space isn't just utilized for FA but provides flexibility for a lot of other things too. I've loved shump but a SG who csnt shoot and is always hurt will have a limited market.

We will now have over 30mil in cap and HOPEFULLY a top 3 pick --- okafor/ towns / mudiay please please please

I'm fine with the trade too. The path to the top (or close to the top) won't be easy, but at least one is now possible.

So this Whitehurst guy on ESPN radio is saying Phil never wanted to be more than a consultant but the money became too big to turn down.

Could you at least name a source.
