Yanks Let Robertson Go to the White Sox

For the second year in a row, the Yanks have lost a homegrown franchise performer in free agency.  Last year it was Cano and they spent the pick they got on another free agent.   This year, they better hold onto their picks.  They now have two.   And they should keep both and not do anything stupid, like thinking because they have two they can swap their own for a Scherzer or something.

It's Lester or nothing from that top tier, and nothing would be prefereable.  Re-sign McCarthy and see what else we have.  And go get the two Yoans.  It's that simple.  And don't trade for any other relievers.

Sheesh.  I'm a little disgusted.   All Cano  ever was was value for the Yanks and that's all DRob was, too.  And because they refused to lock them up early they ended up losing both.  Hopefully, at least this time they keep the pick.

If they give McCarthy Robertson's money they're mentally challenged.

Use the money for Lester or just buy Hal another yacht.

But really, they are just shitting on a once proud franchise.

I am surprised to see the Yankees never even made an offer to Robertson.

Now lets see what they do with the money they saved.

As far as BP arms available, maybe a Grilli, Rodriguez, Romo or Soriano can be brought in to close games.

Feinsand says he heard no Lester and he is pretty much Hal's valet.

So the Yanks get a Compensation Pick at the end of Round 1 and the ChiSox 2nd rounder?

Yankees do not get the White Sox's second rounder - just the comp. pick.

I disagree with some of the previous posters. I did not want to go anywhere near 10 years with Cano. I didn't even want anything more than 5 or 6 at the most. When the Yankees offered 4175 for 7, it was tough to take.

Same thing with D-Rob, if the $46 million figures are true. I am not pleased that they went 4 years with Miller, and am sort-of happy that they did not compound the situation by doing the same with D-Rob.

One can make the argument that D-Rob actually had his worst season last year, since 2010. Maybe the Yankees know something about his medicals that scared them off of the extra year.

Besides, if we have such a bumper crop of kids in the system, like Lindgern, Webb, Pazos, Rubelow, Goody, etc.(I am missing a few, but you get the idea), let's see them step up now.

The idea was to extend Cano a few years before his contract expired. The 10 year thing was a consequence of that failure.

Maybe the Yankees messed up, yet again. Their track record sucks.

The idea was to extend Cano at age 27 to after 33 or so. Now 7 to 10 year deal once he was over 30, which he was when he became a free agent. They just needed to head of the situation they ended up in when there were no good options.

I am glad they let Cano walk. He was a lazy Yankee

They extended Cano once, they could have done it again.

That deleted comment was totally uncalled for.

I have nothing more to say on the subject.

Back to the topic on hand. I wonder, and no one here will ever know, if Cano was approached before the time his 2 option years kicked in, regarding a contract extension, and turned it down because the aforementioned extension would only get him to age 33, 34 or 35, and leave him exposed after that.

Remember who his agent was before Roc Nation. It is very likely that he would not have approved an extension with only 2 or so years to go to free agency.

I am not sticking up for the Yankees here, but to kill them for letting Cano walk is very wrong without knowing all the facts.

Facts, not speculation.

They didn't try to extend him earlier.

Phil;

Did Hal, Hank , Randy Levine or Brian Cashman tell you that personally? Or is it conjecture?

Not doubting your sources, but if it was n9ot from 1 of the above 4, I would find it difficult to believe.

It's not conjecture.

This exchange wouldn't have been necessary if bona fide negotiations had been, or were being conducted.

It also buttresses what I said yesterday about relationships and how a new contract may have been more likely if Boras had remained in place.

The Yankees have been good to his clients, are likely to be good to his clients in the future, and he doesn't want to burn that down.

Roc Nation, otoh, only cares about making a splash.

http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2011/10/boras-aims-to-remove-canos-options-re-work-deal.html

6:32pm: Boras was just joking about a new contract for Cano, the agent tells George A. King III. "Cash [Brian Cashman] and I have talked three or four times in the last three days. My statements were in jest. Cash always returns my phone calls,'' Boras said. "My conversations with Cash about Robinson have nothing to do with the options. We fully expect the options to be exercised."
