Welp. They did. So it's pretty certain that they will now let DRob go elsewhere, take the pick and sign Scherzer or something else. Miller is a good reliever. We already had a lot.
I personally love the signing albeit I am never a fan of signing relievers to 3 years, let alone 4.
This creates leverage in discussions with Robertson and hopefully when Lindgren is called up, we move away from having a traditional "closer".
I always felt having a designated "closer" hurts the way you deploy your bullpen. The save statistic is pointless and your best relievers should be utilized in the highest leverage spots, which may not always be the 9th inning.
And to answer your question in the other thread, Billy, like Lawyer said, the fact that Lester is a LHP in Yankee Stadium and wouldn't cost them a pick is why we prefer Lester.
We've been on board the closers are overrated thing here for awhile. Having a Betances or a Mo `96 is just devastating to opponents. And of course Sparky and Goose were both used for multiple innings at at times, and Robertson in the 8th was fantastic, and he'd be a two inning reliever in the minors.
Lindgren, profiles as another one as does Rumbelow.
It's good to have a bunch of two inning relievers, like they are developing because you cannot pitch them every day, and it's great to to have 2 available every day.
Right now if they could get DRob and Lester and keep their pick, then on the Inty side sign the 2 Yoans, they'd already be a better team and organization than they were last year.
The system is so flawed in IFA that even teams barred from signing players above $300k still get their allotted slot bonuses even though they can't use them.
If they want Lester they have to blow him away the way they blew away CC. Otherwise, they aren't getting him because they can't sell winning here anymore.

I keep watching fewer Yankee games every year, and the ones I watch I end up tuning out (yay Netflix and HBO GO!).
They have become a bore because offense sells.
I hope they prove me wrong at some point because if rooting were a market, I would have sold (or shorted) a long time ago.
Murti said he feels they may take a shot at Lester ..Id rather that...

Billy is right about the closer role, but if Robertson does come back, have to think he gets the ninth.
Lester needs to be the starter they sign.

MK I agree D Rob gets the 9th if he returns.

They expect to sign Heathcott and Campos to minor league deals.
Agreed.
I'm a big fan of Lester and Scherzer, I am quite curious as to what kind of deals either one gets.
They seriously need to get rid of this compensation system though.
They really should.
And they should make more picks tradeable, not just the competitive balance rewards, or international pool room.
You heard something On Campos K9 or just that they said they would try?

Miller just took less to be a Yankee. I don't think they're having trouble selling the best franchise in the world.
How much less and from whom?
Come on, aall that best franchise stuff is based on a legacy. It doesn't currently exist with the current clowns in charge.
It was the Astros. They have young talent, but they have to win to get veterans.
I'd like to keep our pick and get the other pick for Robertson, Remember the shot in the arm our system took with 3 first round picks a few years ago.
