More Yankee Stuff

So the Yanks have now taken care of one of their major objectives by securing a servicealble or better young SS.   That still leaves a hole at either second or third, depending on what they do with Prado.   Cashman mentioned two starting pitchers last week, and now we know why.  They will presumably also add bullpen, though they are loaded with bullpen arms in the minors, and indeed the high minors.

It does seem however that they are starting to fill in some of the blanks in the coaching staff.   Marcus Thames will be the assistant hitting coach, though his superior has not been named.   There was though that Thames might have been Franklin's replacement at AA, but they're bringing him to the big team.  Both Willie Randolph and and Jody Reed have been interviewed for the vacant first base coaching job.

From the other thread:

When has Cashman made Scherzer or Cabrera type deals? Neither were expensive financially at the time. Jeez, no one bats 1.000.

And btw, AVG, iow contact skills, may be the most important hitting tool in the shifts era.

They were salary dumps.

He has had every advantage a GM could have and has squandered it.

The Didi trade could work out well, but there is no reason to trust anything Cashman does.

Miller signed 4 years for 36 per Curry

I don't think it's so much trusting Cashman as it is whether or not to trust the pro scouts who told him this was a good idea.

Billy, a point you made in the other thread that the Tigers GM got fleeced by the Rays in the Price trade... I actually think the opposite. I think the Rays got the short end of that trade. (In general, I'm not as high on Andrew Friedman as a lot of people are.)

So they were willing to go four years on Miller but not Robertson? Or do they just want Robertson's pick that badly.

Either way, hate to lose someone who played for my alma mater — both high school and college. Not to mention, someone with his track record of success.

As long as they sign Lester and not Scherzer, I'm OK with this.

Miller still made a ton for what he is.

Lester would be something to hedge my frustration

*and this doesn't prevent Lindgren from getting a shot.

If they sign Scherzer over Lester, they are insane.

Robertson, Betances, Miller, Wilson,

I don't see how that greases the skids for Lindgren.

After '10 #Redsox obtain Crawford/AGon, #Yankees give record $35m setup deal to Soriano. After ’14, Bos Sandoval/Hanley, NYY $36M for Miller
__

Does this vindicate Levine's Soriano play or does the GM just show up for the check and do as he is told?

I don't see how the Tigers didn't get fleeced in that Price day.

Price is a pending FA about to get a huge payday and in return they gave up Austin Jackson, Drew Smyly and a good prospect.

Drew Smyly outperformed David Price post-trade, is also cost controlled for 4 years.

Rays also receive a huge prospect in Nick Franklin, which to me puts them as a clear winner in this deal.

Anyway, 4/36 isn't that bad -- If Robertson is asking 4/50, which is Papelbon money, you gotta let him go.

AAV of 9mil for a shutdown bullpen piece is good.

Question for everyone: Why do you prefer Lester > Scherzer? If the price tag is the same, what makes you want Lester so much more?

Scherzer has no platoon splits. While he does throw across his body some, he is durable and this shouldn't lead to any injury as his body is accustomed to it. He'd be prone to injury if he changed this.
