Yanks at the Winter Meetings, Pt. 2
Having passed on DRob and collected a sandwich pick for the time being, the Yanks are expected to try to re-up Chase Headley today and maybe add another reliever. I actually think they will now go after starting pitching with their "savings" on SS and not paying DRob. We'll see. I hope they finish the day with both high picks intact.

Lester has 4 offers for 6/150++
WOW
I wouldn't mind 6/$150M for Lester but wouldn't go beyond that.
I hope we get the two Yoans.
The interest in Lester is hardly surprising because there is no compensation.
That is my test for the Yankees. Sign him or admit that you're lost.
Feinsand said we talked to Atlanta about Kimbrell
Would love to have Kimbrell, but at what cost?
If they do that, the deserve out pity.
Really Mike? With all their holes throughout the lineup and in the rotation?
OK, nevermind, I just looked at his contract. Had no idea he was making that much.
FWIW, I live in the South — Braves country — and Kimbrell gets a lot of exposure down here. So I'm a bit biased.
Sorry it was George King, he also said we spoke with Florida about Chisek. Royals about Holland and Davis
We do not match up with the Royals. They also need starting pitching, unless the market for Shields dries up completely, and he comes back to KC for a short term, team-friendly deal.
Lester at 6 years for $150 is really too much. That contract has CC written all over it. As much as I would love him on the Yankees, that price is too much.
I would sooner give that kind of money to Scherzer. Even with the draft pick cost.
Curry said they did not offer D-Rob a contract because they wanted the pick...
I only like taking the pick for DRob if they decide to stop paying closer money to one inning relievers.
Here's the thing MBN, they are in an almost no-win (pun intended) situation.
In terms of position players, they have practically an above market contract at every position except LF and probably SS. They may soon add one at 3B. That means they can't add better offensive options at any position (unless they trade Gardner), or they realize the jeopardy of re-signing Headley.
Then factor in the fragility of the rotation, and Lester provides one of the few legitimate options to able to be in a position to actually have a chance to win a WS, rather than merely contend for the playoffs at the margins as they have over the last two years.
That prioritization of marginal contention, btw, cost them a chance to jumpstart their rebuild/reload by trading Cano and Roberston at the deadline.
They are on a slippery slope to nowhere good.
Yes, Lester carries risks, but there is no good solution given their stated goals, only less bad ones.
Signing Scherzer would be consistent with what I typed, although I prefer Lester, I could live with Scherzer given the alternatives and the mess they are in
