Yankees Score and Win
Headley and McCann homered, and Chris Capuano was borderline brilliant, allowing only an unearned run over 6.2, allowing Braniac to use just two more pitchers, Warren and Huff to finish this one. I have to wonder if it is indeed the Analytics Team that have given the insights leading to the increased K's among these acquired starters. Capuano K'd 8 tonight! That's impressive and whatever it is should be shared with the minor league coaches. K's are the best form of defense. Especially for the Yanks who haven't had good D since I don't know when. Big win. Keep it going.

The Yankees Upton'd Verlander.
They really have to re-sign Headley. He cannot be a rental.
Tex got stitches and will get an x-ray. Not playing tomorrow at least.
Unless he is.
Re strikeouts, I think it is a big part of yanks farm, the system is 2nd (as of the other day) in all milb in K/BB%.
LHP Jacob Lindgren: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K – 12 of 20 pitches were strikes (60 %) in his Double-A debut … now has a 33/4 K/BB in 14.1 pro innings, which works out to a 20.73 K/9 and 55.9 K%
Yup. And Tex's pinky will keep him out awhile, they should call up Roller.
So frustrating
[New York Post] - Robertson: Yankees had their chance to keep me for less money

If that's true, then they messed this up big time by not extending him an offer.
If the time to extend him was in the Spring, or even earlier, I can see why the Yankees waited - just in case he did not have the mental makeup for closing. Some guys just do not have "it", and there was nothing in Robertson's past to suggest he did. In fact, when he got his previous chance, a couple of years ago when MO was injured in May and out for the year, he did not do well (warning: small sample size) and lost the jig to Soriano, who thankfully used it to opt-out of his dumb contract and we gained a draft pick (Judge or Clarkin) because of it.
So, I understand the Yankees FO point of view, if the opportunity was before the season.
Lawyer:
Verlander is not the same pitcher he was just a couple of years ago. He never used to give up 2=strike HRs. And he did so twice last night. The one to Headley was a hanging change, not sure about the one to McCann.
He is turning into the right-handed version of CC.
MBN
I don't disagree to an extent although he did have surgery on a core muscle and may not be fully recovered. I was just making a lame Upton joke.
As for the contract, Robertson had already proven a ton, and again, if you have big money for Prado, you better have it for Robertson and Headley.
One more thing, although Verlander unlike CC, can still take the mound, what these big contracts, especially for aging (over 30) pitchers should show teams is that they are a terrible waste of money, even for the few teams that can burn money.
Sure, there are some that have long careers, but they are outliers, and it is a fool's errand to try to predict who they will be.
So develop what you can, patch together what you can, and spend money on offense, which is much less fragile.
