Knicks Make a Trade

The Knicks have traded Wayne Ellington, Jeremy Tyler and a 2016 2nd rounder to the Kings for Quincy Acy and Travis Outlaw.    I sort of liked Tyler and don't see the utility in giving up a 2nd.  What's more, rumors were they were trying to trade Ellington and someone else to open a space for Toure Murray.   This deal doesn't open a space.   Maybe something else is on the way.

UPDATE: There may be other pieces in this deal, still breaking.

Agreed, that why I think something else must be up, because this doesn't quite make sense yet.

As part of the trade, the Knicks agreed to remove the protection (picks 31-37) on the 2016 second-round draft pick that they traded to Portland in 2012, when they acquired Raymond Felton and Kurt Thomas. That pick was later flipped to Sacramento.

So Grunwald actually knew that pick protection was possible, but somehow didn't think protecting a first for freakin' Bargnani was a good idea.

*speechless*

I guess this means Outlaw becomes Melos backup, and Early becomes a rookie who gets garbage time, with Thansis going to the "D" League, or Europe.

Hate losing Tyler though. Unless Phil feels he does not fit the Triangle.

Mills said the Knicks hope that the 6-9 Outlaw can provide depth at small forward behind Carmelo Anthony. Outlaw averaged 5.4 points and 2.7 rebounds over 16.9 minutes in 63 games last season for the Kings.

"We were clearly heavier at (shooting guard) and needed to strengthen our situation at (small forward). So this clearly helps us there," Mills said.

Rookie Cleanthony Early also has been discussed as a potential backup to Anthony.

"We really like Cleanthony, obviously, but he is a rookie and we wanted to make sure that we had some veteran help at that position as well," Mills said.

The GM added that the Knicks were intrigued by Acy's play in the 2014 Las Vegas Summer League.

"He defends, he can play multiple positions (and) he runs the floor, blocks shots. I just think he adds a level of energy that we think is missing when we look across the roster," Mills said.

I think the pernicious effect of CAA on the Knicks because of the presence of Jackson who can't be pushed around.

There is an agency cartel.

That's why Jay-Z wanted in.

Jackson, Riley and a couple of others are so iconic that their stature can override it.
