Yanks Claim LHP Wade LeBlanc, Move Pineda to the 60 Day DL

In an inanely counterintuitive move, the Yanks have claimed well travelled LHP Wade LeBlanc off of waivers onto their 40 and moved Pineda to the 60 Day DL.   It's retroactive, so it's not like 60 more days of no Pineda have been tacked on.   Anyway, LeBlanc was a college pitched taken in the second round of the 2006 draft by the Padres, and I'd assume our old pal, Kevin Towers.   He's earned a few promotions to the bigs but never been able to make an impression.  So the Yanks, will give him another chance.   This could mean Nuno is headed down for a reliever (please Yankee in the sky) but we should have DFA'd any number of guys before moving Pineda to the 60.   And that's neither here nor there on the length of his DL stint, it would just be to get some of the options out of Joe Girardi's dull knife drawer.

Btw, the in the old, old days, this move would have worked out for the Yankees because of the huge dimensions of YS 1.    This probably.  At least we didn't trade for him -- I guess.

Wade pitched at my alma mater (Alabama), and I enjoyed going to games he started, so I'm pulling for him. That said, LINJ is correct — all of this waiver-wire nonsense is indicative of much bigger problems.

How far away is Refsnyder?

Can we please keep the kids, unless you are getting back high ceiling players either at a higher level of development, or already in the ML who are under 25?

And btw, DFA Soriano. So what if he has a two week hot streak in him. He is D-O-N-E.

They say the jump from High A to AA is the toughest, and he's excelling, so...

Just admit the roster is fundamentally flawed and let folks like Refsnyder, O'Brien, Murphy, Jose Ramirez, Montgomery and (eventually) Banuelos get a shot. Then overhaul the front office in the offseason and bring someone in who knows how to identify and develop talent.

Can people in NY shutup about what a great fit Utley would be?

Just heard a little bit of Mariano with Francesa during lunch. He said Buck had more impact on his development than anyone else because he paid attention to the details. Maybe the real impact of Buck's crazy departure was in development.

They were certainly better able to develop kids in that early to mid `90s period than they are now. And Buck was pure Yankee and of the system. They some of those guys back recently. But it makes me sick to see Brian Butterfield working for the Sox or wherever he is that's not the Yankees right now.
