Rangers Coach Hunt `13: Movement?

Reportedly, Alain Vigneault was flying down to California to meet with Glen Sather and the Rangers brass today.    Another report has circulated that the Rangers have asked for and received permission from Buffalo to speak with their deposed coach Lindy Ruff.  Apparently he'll be getting a phone interview.

Still there was other news out of the first day of organizational meetings that Glen Sather might be stepping down as GM, while keeping his President title.   Strangely, Jeff Gorton seems to be behind Jim Schoenfeld and Doug Riseborough for the job.   Perhaps they'll make him wait a year till Sather is moved out of  both positions, still, pretty weird.

As for the candidates, the knock on Vigneault is playoff success, but I'm really not sure what the aggregate data suggests.   Does playoff success really favor hot teams or hot goalies or is it a function of systems?  I know in baseball and sometimes in football, the hot team wins it all, but with so many games that have to be won, isn't it more likely that some systems are just better suited?   He has taken a team to the finals before.  And his Canucks were aggressive and entertaining.

Lindy Ruff seems to be too much like Torts in systems and could be similarly outmoded. It's interesting that they didn't contact him until Eakins was off the market, and they're giving him a phone interview.   this makes me think that Vigneault is the real candidate and they might be waiting a day or two to see if Bylsma gets fired.

Dallas is apparently interested in Torts.  Good luck, Torts.
