Yankee Draft `13: The Final Five

From the 36th to 40th rounds, the Yanks took two more prep pitchers, a prep outfielder, a collegiate senior shortstop and another collegiate cf.

In the 36th, the Yanks took LHP Nestor Cortes, 5'11" 190.   A Prep pitcher out of Florida.   This one might be a ringer.

In the 37th they took Joshua Pettitte. 6'1 190.   He is the son of Andy.  There's almost no chance that his mom will let him sign with the Yankees, whom she always seems to be mad at.   Also, this does seem like it could be more of a tribute pick than a real prospect choice at this point.

In the 38th, the Yankees honored the son of the Director of Scouting for the Colorado Rockies by taking Andrew Schmidt, 6'1" 180.  He hits and throws lefty, but there must be something up with his D, cause they had him playing left field in high school.  And any scout would encourage both his son and the team he plays for to put him in Center for draft purposes.   I'd like to learn more about him, for as far as I know we don't owe the Rockies any favors.

In round 39th, the Yanks went back to paying tribute to themselves by taking SS Ty Afenir, 6'1" 185, and the son of a Yankee scout.   He's a senior and is probably headed to join the crowded middle infield of the SI Yankees in a few days.

Finally, with their 40th and final pick, the Yanks took CF Kyle Buchanan, 5'10" 185, who I'm sure also has a father somewhere.  He's a junior and might not sign, especially if he goes on the net and looks at our draft tracker.
