Could It Be?

We are three days into NHL Free Agency, and from all appearances, they'are actually serious about a youth movement! So far, rather than doing anything splashy that would tie up postions for years, the Rangers have added a new backup goalie, a new enforcer, and just re-signed Prospal and Prust. They still have to deal with Staal and Girardi, but it absolutely looks like they are leaving spots open for kids. And some of the kids might be ready.

They're just coming off of what sounds like their best prospects camp ever. Stepan and Grachev dominate. Pashnin was an absolute revelation on D - though he can't come over till next year. Chris Kreider is up to 220 and possesses world class speed with the puck. Werek was impressive. And on and on. I wonder if watching them scrimmage so much told them some were ready. Dale Weise was already going to get a shot, but now it looks like Stepan, Grachev and McDonagh, if he signs, will also get shot. Interesting change of direction!

Though I wanted them to get Kovalchuk, I am always up for youth movements over signing FA's who used to be good. Now let's just avoid any prospecty trades! Go Rangers!
