Heading To Camp Early

In what could be great news for the Yanks, Joba Chamberlain is hitting Tampa early in order to get a jump on the season. Joba clearly hasn't been the same pitcher since he sustained the shoulder problem in Tampa in the `08 season. Part of that may have been because he didn't keep up his conditioning and rehab last year. In any event, hopeful we'll see the return of his fastball, and it's terrific that he's taking things so seriously. Go get em, Joba!

I expect big things from him this season. I also hope Phil is sent to AAA to be a starter, where he can finish fine-tuning his change-up.

I hope Cone is right about the time it takes to recover arm strength after a shoulder injury, and I agree with Mike about the best way to use Hughes (unless he becomes the 5th starter). Otherwise, how will he ever gets sufficient IP to become a starter. Using him solely as an 8th inning reliever for what could be two or three more years would be unconscionable.

I am rooting for Hughes for the 5the spot.

Joba is more suited for the 8th inning role where he can let it all out.

Joba has four plus pitches. Until he proves he can't start, he's better suited in the rotation.

Phil needs to develop another pitch.
