Yanks Are Talking to Cleveland Again

Alright, maybe it won't be Happ or EO.  Apparently, the Yanks are talking to the Indians again about their available pitchers. The hold up before was said the be Florial. If they are to give up Florial, they need to demand Trevor Bauer. But he seems like the one they want to keep. So let's see where this leads. I hope they don't give up Florial for Kluber, though he's pretty great, he's also on the wrong side of 30.  There are some others I'd draw a line around as far as keeping, too, so it's probably going to be hard for them to make a trade - unless they can flip Sonny Gray for parts that could then be moved to Cleveland with other non-elite parts from the farm.

I would honestly just rather give Eovaldi three years, but if they got a No. 1/2 type via trade I wouldn't be too upset. Sending Florial away would pretty much guarantee they would have to extend Hicks, and given his injury history, it would still be wise to have depth at center.

This will end badly.

I should say could end badly

I like Cabello, Salinas and Pereira slightly better than Florial. Cabello looks like a kid who can move fast with his awesome approach.

Heyman says Eovaldi closer to RS deal. Shit.

Looks like 4 years 17 mil per for Eovaldi per heyman not confirmed yet..

Cashman‘s track record with starting pitching over the past 20 years has been at best suboptimal. It’s the primary reason why they have won World Series since 2000.

I don't think Cash had anything to do with Sevy going from ace to crap in the second half last year - had he not - even with all the injuires they might have gone farther.

Yanks could use either of the 3. Cant hold onto prospects like Florial if there are similar or better players in the farm.

Cashman admitted that he’s tipping his pitches Cashman hired the pitching coach and stuck with him.

So it looks like it’s it going to be a trade or Happ. Shit

Was it Phil or Rich who coined “penny-wise, pound-foolish”? That describes them so perfectly.

Happ doesn’t excite me beyond one year. They’d better hope Loaisiga stays healthy and King really is the real deal.

If they had given Corbin the extra year, at the end of it, he'd be the same age that Happ is right now,

At 9:28 AM, Blogger Rich said...

But they may well have enjoyed the benefits of the first five years making the sixth year easier to dismiss.

At 9:32 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Agree, I think should have done it. Seems like they have a certain salary structure they're going for.

At 9:49 AM, Blogger Rich said...

Maybe they start to spend soon on really good players, but to this point given their apparent fiscal restraint the Gardner and signings are a bad joke. Gardner and Ellsbury on the same team at this point is ridiculous.

So Happ wants a third year and they’re stuck at 2? Cashman is lost when it comes to starting pitching

Curry

Hearing Yankees never made official 5-year, $100M offer to Corbin. Told him they’d be comfortable w/ 4 or 5 years for $17M to $20M per year. So $100M was floated. When Corbin said he was seeking “Darvish money,” NY didn’t make offer. We will discuss on Hot Stove on YES at 7.

No way they sign Machado or Harper

At 10:30 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

you mean, it must be AND?

At 10:32 AM, Blogger Rich said...

At this point or. Hope I’m wrong

At 10:38 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

That they are holding fast on years, really makes it look like they have a structure planned.

At 10:49 AM, Blogger Rich said...

But is it for baseball reasons or to pad the Steinbrenner‘s nest. There are a lot of family members who want to live very well, and the right of first refusal for YES will be very expensive.

At 11:06 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

I pointed out a a couple of weeks ago that the Yanks never hit 4M at home till they got ARod. So, if they want to buy back YES, the easiest way is by adding to Franchise Value. Guys like Corbin probably don't move franchise value by themselves. Guys like Harper and Machado, do.

At 11:11 AM, Blogger Rich said...

Yes but winning does and as much is I want one or both of those guys, adding Happ will not help them win.

Carasco extension

Gray > Happ Fix him, dammit

At 11:41 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Rich, I'm startiing to think if they wanted Happ, they'd have had him by now. I think they're making a trade. And I expect a Sonny Gray trade or a three way trade that includes him, any minute now. Having said all that, Happ would help us win a division and avoid another WC game and road schedule.

At 12:05 PM, Blogger Rich said...

You could be right about a trade but on Happ at his age with the declining spin rates, hard pass.

At 12:37 PM, Blogger Rich said...

@JeffPassan
On the heels of Carlos Carrasco’s three-year, $37.5M extension, Cleveland is increasingly motivated to move Trevor Bauer or Corey Kluber, sources tell Yahoo Sports. Plenty of options on the trade market, which is extremely active as Patrick Corbin has signed with the Nationals.

Schoop to the Twins.

At 2:05 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Crazy rain here is somehow screwing with my wifi or I would have made a new post. I think passing on Schoop and Segura means Manny is in the plans.

At 2:24 PM, Blogger Rich said...

You guys seem to get massive rains or droughts.

We have had a lot of rain, like 12 inches or so over normal in the reservoirs.

At 7:03 PM, Anonymous yankyfan said...

Lord I hope not Manny.

Micheal Brantley's agent said he is able and willing to play 1B.

At 7:05 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

I really don't think they want to hit the Winter Meetings without adding another SP, first.

At 7:39 AM, Blogger Rich said...

Rosenthal - Cleveland may not attach a bad salary to a SP trade to get max return. The NYY farm system has already graduated/traded a lot of prospects. In many ways Corbin or Eovaldi would have been way cheaper. Cashman escapes so much deserved heat on SP issues during his entire tenure. It’s crazy.

Jared Banner will be the #Mets’ new farm director, sources tell The Athletic. Previously was #RedSox VP of player personnel. Dombrowski revealed yesterday that Banner was leaving Boston organization.

The Mets are becoming at least a competent organization. All the more reason the Yankees should up their game and spend more.
