This Week on the Blog
The Knicks just came from 16 back to beat the Bucks in OT, in a thriller. And Kevin Knox broke out of his early season blews with 26! Mudiay had 28! And Dot - who should be playing more - had 21 including 5/5 from 3. He did that in 33 minutes. Hardaway also had 21, but he played 47 minutes. But this is not exclusively a Knicks post. The Rangers are down 3-0 after one in Montreal, the Yanks are sitting on their hands, and the Giants still want to play Eli. Let's take a look at what might be coming.
Yankees: The Yanks are said to want to get their starting pitching figured out before the Winter Meetings start. And those start on December 9th. So that leaves this week to, hopefully, wrap up Corbin or sing up, or trade for, a plan B. Also, over the past couple of days, some pretty plugged in guys in the media are saying the sense around baseball is that the Yanks will end up with Bryce Harper. I think we'd all prefer that, if only a little bit, to getting Manny, though he's also a great player and the Yanks would be improved by having either. If they get Bryce, you have to wonder if they will also trade Giancarlo Stanton. It will be a crowded OF/DH if they don't. Having brought back Gardy shouldn't stop them from doing it. But he really might not play much.
Giants: The Giants insist on playing Eli Manning, and even made noise this week about possibly having him next year. Better not be at the current cap number. That's about all there is to stay about them.
Knicks: The Knicks are a young, inonsistent fun to watch team. So it's important not to get down when they get down by 16. They've shown a knack for coming back. Frank didn't play tonight, but other guys like Dot and Burke have come back strong from scratches, and here's hoping Frank will, too. Meanwhile, here's hoping the Knicks can trade Hardaway. He plays hard, if not brilliantly, but they should really be able to cover the 2 comfortably and cheaply with Dot and Trier. I think the fans on Twitter might have needed this Knox game more than the kid did. He's still got all the talent in the world to become a start and is also one of the two youngest players in the league. He'll get there. But if he can build off tonight, he'll get there faster. Big win.
Rangers: The Rangers look like they're going to be 1 and 4 since Thanksgiving. That's hideous. On the streak that had them in first, they were never out of games and winning the battle of wills on a nightly basis. They're currently down 4-1 in the second with a goal from Vesey, his 9th. We have to remember, though that, just like the Knicks, the Rangers are YOUNG, and that can leads to inconsistency. They have more talent in the system, and the assets to keep adding. They should still be sellers at the deadline, thoough. Now it's 4-2, Strome with his 3rd. So maybe....
So there it is. Two young teams, one bad team, and the Yanks still need help. Have a great one.

Entertaining Knicks game, they really gave all they had. Nice team effort, loved seeing Knox have a nice game.
Lauletta is active.
It’s going to be interesting to see what kind of contract the Knicks give Trier. It sounds like he wants to get paid for significantly outperforming his undrafted status and that’s understandable.
Heyman
2) Yankees: Managing partner Hal Steinbrenner has said aloud multiple times that he seriously wants to hear Machado’s explanation for October for himself when they visit, and from here that’s a tell. That’s the best evidence yet about how serious they are about Machado, who they chased twice previously, and even when they were full up on the left side of the infield. Now they have a hole at shortstop following the surprising need for Didi Gregorius to have Tommy John surgery, which should keep him out into the second half. One Yankees person said while they like Machado, they don’t like him to the point of $300 million, and that might just be the start of negotiations. Meanwhile, they are saying Harper doesn’t really fit. Boras is selling them on the TV value of bringing in the “iconic” (his word) player at a time they are trying to buy YES back from FOX. Yankees people say their ratings are great as is. And there is the question of how big a risk $300 million would be for an untested first baseman. Harper did take grounders at first at times over the last two years, and folks think he can be just as good at first as he is in the outfield (that’s a compliment, I think?). Odds to sign one: 1-1
The whole Harper thing smells like Teix all over again, same agent also..
Last week a report surfaced that the Yankees were among several teams talking to the Marlins about acquiring catcher J.T. Realmuto, which Cashman said wasn’t true.
“False, completely false,’’ Cashman said. “I saw that somebody had written that we had offered for Realmuto. That is completely false.’’
I don’t like the guy but Big Ben still has the deep deep ball that Eli no longer has.
Obviously, Frank is very raw and his offensive skillset needs a lot of developing, but I don’t understand the need to move him unless they were overwhelmed and that seems very, very unlikely.
It’s going to be weird seeing Cano in a New York Mets uniform.
So glad he is not a Yankee again.
I agree because of his contract and age. When you give a 31 year old player a 10 year contract you want the first five years much more than the second five.
That said he was a great Yankee.
Yep, I wish he had taken their seven-year deal.
Supposedly we’ll know something on Corbin soon. If it’s the Yankees, I hope it’s for no more than five years. If it isn’t, I hope Eovaldi, not Happ, is the fallback.
If it’s completely about money for him I guess he may not come here. How much is enough and how much does being a Yankee mean in dollar terms? Something? Nothing?
I really don’t want Happ.
Based on Cashman‘s comments to YES yesterday they’re all in on Corbin. Will see if it’s mutual.
Levine on Hal S. going over tax threshold: "There’s no doubt if Cash and his baseball people come to him and say 'we need this one piece that we feel really great about (making us) a championship team,' Hal will give it great consideration even if it goes over the threshold."
Levine needs to shut up.

According to one person close to the situation, he believes it will come down to the Yankees and Nationals - not the Phillies - in the Patrick Corbin sweepstakes. "He loves the Yankees and has a close relationship with [Nationals GM] Mike Rizzo."
@jonmorosi: Sources: #Yankees made a 5-year offer to Patrick Corbin but did not increase the years beyond that, an indication that he is signing elsewhere. @MLB @MLBNetwork
Wow.
I assume it will now be Happ and that our Farm must produce 2 starters pretty rapidly. Which they seem set to do.
Corbin 6 years to Nationals.
@Feinsand: With Patrick Corbin headed to Washington, the Yankees will continue talking with Nathan Eovaldi, J.A. Happ and Lance Lynn about the final spot in their rotation. Have to think this also increases the chances they spend more elsewhere. Manny Machado, perhaps?
Sign Eovaldi. Happ is mediocre and old.
Glad they drew a line in the sand, honestly. Wasn’t crazy about going beyond four years with Corbin, much less five.
New Yankee post.
Landon Collins is down for the year. Torn labrum, surgery coming.
