This Week on the Blog
Alright, the past week started with the Giants beating the Bears, which was followed up by the Knicks losing more, the Rangers barely playing, and the Yankees letting their "number one target" go without a fight. At least 3-8 beat 8-3. This week could be slightly more eventful. Let's take a look.
Yankees: as alluded to, the Yanks whiffed on Patricl Corbin, and we'll see if that was the right move in pretty short order. With the top free agent pitcher already off the board - as well as the illusory Eovaldi - the Yanks can either sign a free agent like Happ or go back to the trade market for something better. Of course, in either circumstance, they can't overpay in years for a free agent or in prospects for a a 4th starter. They've also got to restock the pen and find someone to play SS or 2B while Didi is out. By now, in the process, Cashman usually has a pretty good understanding of what everything will cost and what trades are makeable. Last year, we had a feeling they were interested in Stanton and it turned out they were. Corbin had sort of been that guy this year and they didn't get him. Should be an interesting week,
Giants: The Giants aren't going to play Lauletta till they are mathematically eliminated from the post season. Ah. That said, they've looked more and more fixable (or less broken) lately, and they clearly had a monster draft. Not just Saquon, but Hernandez, Carter and Hill all look like fixes. Heck, Hill might break LT's rookie sack record. And undrafted guys like Will Tye and Grant Haley have looked like "guys." They still need to fix the OL, and it would be great to get more pass rush. But they're not as bad as they've looked over the last year and 8 games.
UPDATE: OBJ has been ruled out for tomorrow's game against Washington.
Rangers: the Rangers, somehow, have had 5 games off in the middle of the season. So, most of the news this week was that a bunch of their prospects like Kravstov, Miller, Lundkvist and more, were invited to participate in their respective National U20 camps. Chytil's invitied but won't take the time off. Getting invited, and hopefully making the teams, is a very good sign. For those 4 or 5 years when the Rangers didn't have picks, this wasn't happening. But, if the years before that, when guys like Stepan, Kreider and McD were always playing for the National Team. So, good stuff. There's also word that Kravstov will join the Rangers at the end of his KHL season. So there's that to look forward to in the even that they don't make the playoffs.
Knicks: Frank's been getting DNP's lately, and it hasn't been a good look for the D. We'll see if he returns today. It's interesting that Coach Fiz and Coach Quinn both use the "healthy scratch" on young players who aren't performing. We'll see if it helps Frank be more aggressive on O - like he is on D. They're playing the Nets later.
So there it is. Possible big week for the Yanks, and playing out the string for the other 3 teams right now. Rebuilding is good, but only sometimes fun, so far. Have a great one.

Hardaway is hopelessly inconsistent.
The whole team is, but he's the only one eating a lot of cap.
And he should be at a more advanced stage of development.
Forget a top rotation if they do this. It would be a typical mediocre Cashman rotation as it has been during his entire tenure.
Yanks are said to be one of several teams still in pursuit of JA Happ, their own free agent
Heyman: Yankees won’t give Machado $300m
Harper: they have OF glut/strength
Gardner and it’s a strength/glut? Heh.
I think this is posturing early on. I believe when it comes down to the nitty gritty they will pay. I just can’t see them getting under the tax, buying back YES, and not reinvesting in a big way. One they aren’t as good as Boston, and two, if they just pocket the money it provides bad optics for the fan base.
I think it's posturing as well, but I would be fine skipping on both if they, for example, signed Michael Brantley to a shorter-term deal, improved the pitching and were dedicated to the idea of Trout in two years.
Kevin Knox became the second teenager in NBA history to record at least 25 points and 15 rebounds. The other was LeBron James. -- @SBondyNYDN

They have interest in Adam Warren? Jeez.
Warren as the long man would be fine by me.
Trump is considering Randy Levine as his new chief of staff. OMG CAN CHRISTMAS COME EARLY?!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So many thoughts so little time. I think it’s best I STFU.
The reason I don’t want Warren is because they don’t keep him in long relief. Over time he gets too many important roles and he ends up sucking.
Less than interesting news.
I can’t believe I’m saying this, but they have so screwed up by not signing Corbin or Evo, and the price for Bauer and Kluber are going to be ridiculously high and their farm system is already depleted, that fuck it sign Happ. What a mess.
Again, my preference is to keep Sonny Gray and hire new pitching coach, but no they’re too blind for that.
Their farm system is not depleted. They are depleted in marketed names that have worked their way up to the higher levels, but the lower levels haven't had more since the 1940s.
