Is Manny the Planny?

So Rosenthal is now saying that the Yanks would be open to moving Miguel Andujar to make room at 3B for Manny Machado. As hitters, Miggy and Manny are pretty similar.  Good contact, lots of homers, lots of doubles, don't really walk much. In the field, Manny is a great defensive 3B, and I'd assume that's what they'd ask him to play, rather than short. Of course, the return for Miggy would have to super substantial. They've can't give sell a near rookie of the year (players voted him rookie of the year) just to create space. They have to seriously upgrade the rotation or more. even if he goes in a Sonny Gray trade, an ace, plus, must come back and that's whether we get Manny or not. Though it does seem like the plan or a plan, is based around us getting Manny.

Btw, getting Manny would fit with the patter of continually trying to trade for a guy before getting him. We saw that with Stanton, probably should have seen it with Corbin, but the Yanks tried to get get Manny from the O's at least 2x and their owner wouldn't make a deal with them,

Comparison: Syndergaard started 32 games over the last two years, Corbin started 65.

This is only necessary because Cashman can’t develop starting pitchers

But there’s no accountability.

Definitely Cashman's fault...smh

Besides Cle, is there any franchise that has developed cy young SP consistently? Pitchers are the most volatile and fragile players in the sport.

The reason that there is no such thing as a pitching prospect is that all pitchers run the injury gauntlet and because of that, you can't synch their development clocks with the big leagyue team. Look at Kaprielian he was a stud, got hur, went in the Gray trade. Clarke Schmidt was hurt when they trafted him and could help this year. Loaisiga was was hurt when he was young and the Giants released him, now we have him. And certainly the Yanks have developed Sevy and Jordan Montgomery, who is now hurt, and it was nobody's fault that Chance Adams didn't get his 95-97 fastball back till the end of the 2018 season, and that was injury related.

Develop starting pitchers consistently? We don’t develop anyone; even Severino is a question mark at this point. The only World Series won under Cashman is with the last core.

The Red Sox hired Price, traded for Sale, got Porcello from the Tigers....

At 9:08 AM, Blogger Rich said...

Yeah the Yankees have done the same thing just not as well. The Red Sox are better because of their offense.

Because Judge was hurt and Stanton played through a hammmy and other stuff. Oh and Sanchez was hurt a bunch and needed surgery, Gleyber was out for a bit. Hicks was out for a bit. Birt had to have more surgery on the injury they were supposed to clean out last year... and Betts had a year NO ONE ON EARTH saw coming.

The Sox went all in on Sale, btw, and I wonder what the mood around here would have been had the Yanks traded Moncada.

The Red Sox have more players that don’t just focus on launch angle.

At 9:24 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Really? They paid JD Martinez for the lauch angle he suddenly developed a year or two ago. And I don't even hear the Yanks talk about lauunch angle. Hear about exit velocity but now launch angle.

At 9:26 AM, Blogger Rich said...

He actually said the opposite, which I posted a while back. He said too many hitters try to hit the ball in the air. He focuses on is hitting to all fields and being situational.

At 9:35 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Btw, reading Rowland's annual interview over at PiinstripesPlus and he says Alcantara is in the same group as Periera, Cabello and Salinas in terms of having 5 tools and hitting right out of the gate,

And who said?

This is so dumb. Hicks who put up a 123OPS+ last season (a hitter by the way who started to learn to hit situationally) for Quintana 106 ERA+ last season.

They'd have to give us a lot more than Quintana for Hicks.

Btw, once we let Quintana go, it was never going to make any sense to send good assets after him.

Tulo DFA’d by the BJs proving once again that health is a skill.

And the Blue Jays are eating $38 million. It’s long past time for the deep-pocketed Yankees to start chow in down on Ellsbury’s contract. No team claiming to be a World Series contender can keep both him and Gardner on the roster.

Also, everyone says that if this three-way was ever consummated Andujar would end up woth the Mets. It would be bad enough he was on the Marlins, on the Mets, in my opinion, no fucking way.

Doesn't seem like it's happening. Can't believe Sonny Gray is still a Yankee.

Watching Yankee hot stove PR on YES.

Kay says they want a 5 year deal with Machado. He says 5 years 40 per. I think not that high though. $35ish I would think.

At 4:55 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Apparently, the Phillies and JA Happ are close on a 3 year deal.

At 5:22 PM, Blogger Rich said...

Too long for a 36 year old with a declining spin rate.

Agreed. Sign Kikuchi for depth and shift focus to Machado/Harper.

Do not be surprised if Yankees and Mets start talking again. That was real yesterday and they sides are on better terms than in years

I don’t see that as a positive.

Happ is back on a three-year deal. Dumb, but that tells me the price for a starter is way too high. Wonder if they go after Kikuchi as well.

At 7:24 AM, Blogger Rich said...

Cashman continues to suck it pitching

At 7:25 AM, Blogger Rich said...

He is such an overrated GM

At 7:26 AM, Blogger Mike in Mississippi said...

Rosenthal now backing away from the claim that it’s a done deal. Merely “close.”

At 7:26 AM, Blogger Michael said...

@Buster_ESPN: Yankees have interest in J.A. Happ, but sources saying that at this moment, there is no agreement with the lefty. We'll see if that changes.

At 7:27 AM, Blogger Rich said...

Still a joke that they talk to him about three years

At 7:28 AM, Blogger Rich said...

Corbin was the best course even on an overpay and they blinked

At 7:34 AM, Blogger Rich said...

Sherman:#Phillies and #Yankees have been viewed as the strongest competitors for Happ. I have thought NYY needed sure innings enough that I said on #MLBNetwork yesterday they should go to the 3d yr Happ wants or offer 2 yrs with makeable vesting option for 3d yr to seal deal.

36 year olds are inherent question marks. But hey let’s pretend otherwise.

1 year too many but the price of Kluber or Syndergaard must have been too much.

Good move for next 2 years

At 7:50 AM, Blogger Rich said...

We don’t know that he will be good for two years
