Happ Headed to the DL
So, JA Happ is heading to the DL with his ancient virus, and Luis Cessa will start in Boston. Meanwhile, Sheffield's up 2-1 in the fourth, so his winning streak could continue today. More and more it's looking like he could get some starts down the stretch. There are a few easy DFA's on the 40, and adding Justus is just a matter of time. He's basically as good as his slider is on any given day, at this point. Has been good, but not super dominant, as we might have expected after his work in the AFL last year. Chance Adams pitched a one hit, 8 inning start the other day, and may have learned how to pitch, while he was waiting for his fastball to come back post surgery.

I was really hoping to see what Happ can do against Boston but Cessa is coming off a solid start so we will see what happens.
Sheffield could be called up for the BP due to innings limit.
All due respect, yankyfan, but in response to a post you made in the previous thread, I think it's whistling past the graveyard to say this team doesn't need offense. Sure, they may be second in the league in runs scored, but the recent stretch highlights a frustrating, continued inability to hit with runners in scoring position. To chalk up this team's problem entirely to starting pitching — though that has been a problem for sure — paints an incomplete picture.
He loves pitching yet Cashman has been the bad at developing and trading for top of the rotation pitching but he loves Cashman.
Oh, I don’t have the link, but there’s a great article in the NYT on a re-examination of Munson’s death subsequent to a document investigation by a lawyer/fan.
Sanchez hasn't been Sanchez, Judge has been out and Bird has just started hitting recently.
Offense will be fine.
Its the SP IMO that needs to be addressed barely going 5 or 6 innings. That BP will be burned out in no time.
Yeah, after so many false starts, this O hasn't taken off as I expected it to this year., And to a degree I really do think batting orders have been part of the problem.. Your best hitters must get the most AB'a and that has not been happening.
The O has been saved by Torres and Andujar. They have plate coverage, keeping their bats in the zone, and make adjustments. Too many of their hitters have become too HR conscious. IMO, that’s a big contributor to their collective offensive underperformance.
They finally faced the Gray reality.
That’s some unexpected candor by Cashman, but he could also be trying to build his value by suggesting he can’t handle NYC.
Getting Gray out of the rotation could work wonders. Quality starts have been our big determinent and after a rough start to the season Lynn has been pitching to a sub 4 ERA over his last 12 sarts, and his FIP was even better, so if we can turn DP's he could be terrific.
Not really a Lynn fan but he is better than Gray at this point so wish him the best.
So name me the top of the rotation SP that Cashman has traded or developed (Severino says Hi) that has failed.
Top of the rotation is a #1 or #2.
Who is next up tonight, Cessa?
Nope Holder.
Watch the RISPfail that will inevitably happen going forward in this game and convince me they shouldn’t sign Machado this offseason?
Bad call but a bad AB by Stanton.
They all do it but the game is on the line. What are they saving their best relievers for?
Just calling the pen now. Manager asleep.
You’re gonna see some RISPFail like you never have before, but it would also be nice if they knew good fundamentals.
Boone is unprepared.
You are talking about cause and I agree, but the effect is not to sit on your hands.
Boone is giving the game away
Boone’s actions are a clear indication that they’re conceding the division to the Sox and are more concerned about not burning out relievers come October.
Burning Cessa. Ugh.
I bet they call up Sheffield for Cessa’s start.
I made that last post not remembering that Sheffield pitched today, so maybe Adams?
The Boone Yanks are fundamentally unsound. Yanks were getting umped and he didn't blow up enough to get tossed. Team scores early then stops. I believe it will be Swanson or someone else. Anyway, we're gonna have DFA theater tonight.

This keeps happening and it’s been happening all season, and it falls on the coaching staff. It falls on infield coach Carlos Mendoza, on outfield coach Reggie Willits, and it falls on Boone. The buck stops with the manager. Sabathia got hit by a comebacker and airmailed the throw to first for an error. It happens. It’s a physical mistake. I can live with those. They’re inevitable.
But players throwing to the wrong bases, players not being where they should be, players not knowing what to do on a specific play? That’s garbage. Unacceptable for a contender, especially this deep into the season. The Yankees looked unprepared — that’s the only way to describe it, unprepared — far too often, and it’s gone on too long. It’s a failure by the coaching staff and a failure by Boone. Play this sloppy for this long and it’s on them. It’s not just the players.

Guys need to run hard out of the box everytime. Hopefully Torres learns from this and for that matter Sanchez as well.
Maybe he should’ve been in the pen last night and Cessa should’ve been saved?
Adams

Chance has to be added to the 40. Let's hope his velo is back and he cruises with hhis 4 pitch mix.
"Not a coincidence the pitching went to shit each time Sanchez was on the DL." -Mike Axisa in the comments section of his article of last night's game
I'm not a Romine hater, but there's a reason he's a backup. Unfortunately, Higgy no longer has the arm he once did per Phil, so they don't have a lot of good options.
Going into 2019, it's clear to me the rotation needs a major overhaul. Severino is your No. 1. At this point, Tanaka is a good No. 4/5 who will occasionally pitch like a 1/2. (The juiced ball, if you believe that's a thing, has hurt him.) That means you need to find a 2, 3 and 4/5. Really, I would argue your 2-3 need to be ace-caliber as well. That doesn't simply mean signing Patrick Corbin and hoping for the best. They need to scour the trade market, Asia (thinking of Kikuchi in particular), anywhere and everywhere. Leave no stone unturned, and spare no expense. Don't do the lazy thing and just re-sign CC again. Upgrade, and take chances on guys with high ceilings.
And that’s another reason I am kind of pissed at Gray and Boone because they furthered (intentionality is irrelevant) the false meme that Sanchez is a bad catcher.
The rotation next season:
Sev
Big money FA
Costly trade
Tanaka
Sheffield
New post.
