Yanks Apparently Sign 16 year old SS Alexander Vargas for 2.5M

Jesse Sanchez is reporting that the Yanks today signed switch-hitting SS Alexander Vargas, which would eat up most of what they traded for. I wonder if they can now replenish it again with more trades. Anyway, for the Yanks to give out a 2.5M in the international market these days attests to great talent and things like huge exit velocity, etc. There are some videos of the kid, but not a lot of pictures to grab, but this is probably a kid to keep an eye on as things get going next season.

Oh, and he's Cuban.  Fangraphs had his ranked as 14th in this IFA class, but the Yanks must have had him much higher if the bonus number is correct.

My understanding is the Yankees can't trade for anymore international money. They have traded for up to half of their total allowance.

Victor Victor Mesa would be great but not sure how much will he cost or how much is left to spend.

The number is 75% but it seemed like they went back up top the 75% when they were waiting on Ohtani last season, then after signing Salinas, Cabello and others, went and made another deal (with the Brewers) for more IFA money for last year's class right before the deadline.

I would think if numbers are correct we have 200k left? Can we add that to the minimum amount of 300,000 to sign someone for 500,000?

I guess that’s good, but meanwhile Sonny Gray sucks and had to get the fuck out of here.

So Gray was all smiles coming off the mound with that performance?

He cannot start another game for this team.

Lynn to the rotation and Gray to the pen, and some speed for Boone who sleepily left him in too long.

I’m bearish in general on the idea of Stanton being an everyday DH when the advanced metrics love him in left, but I’m especially bearish on DHing him so Shane Robinson can get into a game.

Sadly, when Gray pitches it doesn’t matter, and this better be the last time he starts for this team

Good pitching wins games.

And the offense sucks too. It’s too much focus on launch angles and HR. Fucking put the ball in play.

Except when it doesn’t

Torres and Andujar are the two best pure hitters on the team.

Even Curry thinks Lynn should replace Ed Whitson.

Boone says they will talk about it.

I can’t recall a worse trade over at least the last decade.

That’s why Torres and Andujar are going nowhere even if they sign Machado this offseason, which I think you almost have to. Make Stanton the everyday LF, and Andujar can play first/DH on days Machado plays third.

Should the team just concede the division? Or better yet, is that what the team is currently doing?

I give Gray credit for facing the media; it shows character. But this isn’t personal. He has been beyond bad. Time to move on.

There is apparently some issue with his Twitter account that seems strange.

If this is why they got Lynn i get it.

I wonder if there were real offers for Gray.

Trade wasn't bad at the time. Just didn't work out.

You miss the point. It’s not what they gave up. It’s how much Gray has hurt them when he pitches.

Yanks didnt have any options before did they?

German was far worse than Gray was. Lynn is here now and let's see what they decide to do.

Gray was very good his last 3 starts prior to this.

That’s ridiculous. Obviously, you can’t distinguish a developing player acclimating himself to MLB and a player acquired to be a #2.

And you have no understanding of MLB history because virtually every pitcher struggled early in his career.

Even taking that into account, German was dominant at times vs. very good teams.

You, like some othe uniformed fans, even blamed Sanchez for Gray’s bad pitching.

He pitched well against bad teams, dude.

Today, with the opportunity to take the team to wiithin 4.5 games of 1st, he went belly up.

Gray has to go.

Also looks like Cessa will start Saturday.

Right on as German was getting acclimated to being horrible but did have some decent starts. Got it.

Some catchers (for those that consider Sanchez as one) just don't click with pitchers. I never blamed him for that.

Yanks are second in the league in runs scored but some "fans" still think we need a bat over SP.

Glad to see Nevin get on to the players yesterday for lack of effort.
