JA Happ is a Yankee
Alright, unless there is a painful third piece, JA Happ is a Yankee for Chris Drury and Billy McKinney. This is fine, and in fact, great for our 40 man roster. I creates 2 spaces now, and brings back just one rental that will open back up in November. So it looks like it's just the two pieces.
Here's the upside, yeah, I don't trust Rothschild to fix him, but I do like the idea of CC and JA talking. Sort of reminiscent of the mutually fueling relationship CC had with Cliff Lee back when they were both in Cleveland. His FIP is also lower than his ERA, and his K/9 was over 10 last time I checked. Unless he regains the mojo he had last year and till last month, he should still stabilize the rotation and get us to the recently extended bullpen in pretty good shape. If his switch goes back on, he's our 2 or 3.
Also, if Justus Sheffield comes up, he couldn't have much better support than he will get from CC (which he is already getting) and Happ.

They failed by not upgrading the rotation in the off-season prices are lower
Despite the fact that I think it’s a significant overpay, the issue is he going to be better than Gray, IOWA give you six innings and even four runs a game?
This is a pretty low price, also having him helps Justus Sheffield if they call him up. Also, saves Clint Frazier and gives him a chance to be the 3rd OF next year.
This deal is fine. Hopefully he has the right makeup for NYC.
How is this a significant overpay and what prices were lower in the offseason?
Yankyfan said in the other thread that McKinney is a CF and that's entirely false, he's a fringy LF at best. In the offseason, Cole would have cost Andujar ++...
This is essentially Taylor Widener, Nick Solak & Billy McKinney for Happ. Outside of his past 3 starts where he's had some bad luck, he's been a very good LHP for 2 years.
Prices are necessarily lower in the off-season because teams don’t act with the same sense of urgency. They gave them two starters with years of control for a rental. That says it all
Honestly, why do we care about years of control? if the players are good, the Yanks aint letting them go over $, especially now with our tax being reset this year.
Prices are generally lower in the offseason because you can use more patience, but Billy is right, Happ in the offseason was coming off a good season and would have cost Andujar and more. Neither of these trades are Dynasty derailing. And Happ helps us in the short term with our rotation.
Still suspect there's another move or two coming, because we haven't gotten any extra IFA room yet, and we tend to always get an extra pitcher.
It’s an indication of their potential value, to me at least
It doesn’t matter what I think. I thought gray would be better than this if he was healthy and he hasn’t, so it’s not like I’m right all the time
McKinney is more of a CF'er than Frazier claims he is.
The Gray deal hasn't worked out for the Yankees but Mateo has done nothing in AAA. Kap hasn't thrown a pitch since 2016 and Fowler is the only one to make it.
Cash sold high on them all and you make that deal 10 out of 10 times.
Again you say things that you don’t know to be true. You have no idea how they develop from here?
He hasa good ERA versus Boston so there’s that

This likely puts the Yankees just under the cap so any more improvements likely come from within.
That's true..we don't know how these guys will develop like Montero and Refsnyder.
Hopefully Adams can bounce back as his stock has taken a serious hit. Scouts have projected him to be a relief pitcher so there might be hope with that.
It's a good cleanup of their 40 man roster for sure since they are so deep in players so props to Cashman getting something for them.
Let's see what else happens. I think we're still under but would have to move salary to add any other major league part by Tuesday.

So based on that article, they know it’s a bit of an overpay, but risk-reward they’re willing to do it.
As for Monteiro, let’s remember he was like the 5th best prospect in baseball. For that they got a pitcher with a bad injury history and who may have been damaged goods.
Cash says, "time will tell if we make another trade but we are definitely as active as everybody is"
Domingo German left his start with diminished velo and pointing toward his elbow....
The preliminary diagnosis is biceps tendinitis.
Let's hope that's all it is.
Yanks have had talks with the Twins... We'll see who else Not a Santana fan.
Judge leaves the game after being HBP'd in the right wrist.
Now a comebacker hits Sonny's pitching hand and he will stay in.
Maybe not, they're watching him throw.
Judge...all the best, man.
They let him bat again so hopefully just precautionary.
Cone said they have an x-ray at the stadium. So if they’re taking him for an MRI it’s “a little scary.”
Torres is by far their most versatile hitter.
Gray looking good
Well, he gets in jams and got out of them. The issue remains can he get out of jams v. good offenses?
New post on Judge, chipped wrist.
