Yanks Announce 22 Signings

The Yanks PR department just announced that the Yanks have signed 9 of their top 10 picks (Hutchinson is still playing) and 13 other picks. Given their toploaded spending this year, you have to wonder if 13 out of the top ten is all their signing.

That said, top loading was not a bad idea given how loaded their system already was going into the draft. You don't want a bunch of college guys stuck in the GCL blocking kids. And it was also wise to take some injured guys like Ernst who are on a different clock that will time up better with the guys the Yanks already have graduating, getting traded or whatever.

UPDATE: In an interview Damon Oppenheimer said Isaiah Pasteur is a fast CF, not a pitcher.  So add one more fast hitter to the pile.

You DON’T trade this
Clint Frazier is hitting .328/.399/.595 at AAA. He's 23.

Best trade chip. Depends on who is being targeted such as in a package for Bumgardner.

At 1:55 PM, Blogger Michael said...

You trade Didi, and the hall of famer himself Hicks lol. Frazier goes nowhere, cannot be overstated.

At 2:09 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

MadBum isn't getting traded.

At 2:12 PM, Blogger Rich said...

The best trade chip is Judge. Want to trade him toO?

At 2:24 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

My one concern about Frazier is they might view Ryder Green as a bigger, faster version. I want to keep both.

At 2:40 PM, Blogger Rich said...

That means both are better than Hicks. So that’s who I trade

At 3:26 PM, Anonymous Yankyfan said...

I dioubt Bum gets traded.

At 3:29 PM, Blogger Mike in Mississippi said...

Bumgarner isn’t getting traded. Neither of the Mets’ aces are being traded to the Yankees. Just hold onto the chips.

DIdi and Hicks are not helping Sonny in inning one.

BIRD!

GLEYBER OF LOVE!

If you get a scoreless inning out of Shreve you don’t tempt fate by bringing him out for another.

At 6:27 PM, Anonymous yankyfan said...

That was crushed by a 19 year old.

At 6:41 PM, Blogger Rich said...

Predictable though. Gray AB Shreve are not great.

At 7:08 PM, Blogger Rich said...

It’s long past time to stop pretending Hicks is anything more than a tease.

At 7:21 PM, Blogger Rich said...

Hal says they are prepared to add to the rotation. Just like lost fans.

Baseball has a way of correcting everything, which is what we’re seeing with Romine most likely.

It’s time to do what my current username says.

At 7:38 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Hicks has had one month of maybe 6 weeks of productive O. Unleashed a wild throw tonight, which Frazier could have done, plus some O. Romine is revertin to his mean. and the Yanks can't keep winning with the 2 or 3 of the big 4 not producing on at given night.

At 7:45 PM, Blogger Rich said...

I am very concerned that the Yankees are telling everyone they want to buy. Selling confers more leverage.

But if they must, Gray has to be included in any trade for a pitcher.

At 4:42 AM, Anonymous Yankyfan said...

Are you moving Gardy to CF if Frazier comes up?

At 7:11 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Yeah, Gardy mostly, Frazier some, Judge some.

From Twitter:
Some stats to back up my argument that Hicks has taken a huge step backward this year:
UZR/150: 12.9 (‘17) vs 5.3 (‘18)
RngR: 6.5 (‘17) vs 0.0 (‘18)
DRS: 15 (‘17) vs -1!!! (‘18)
UZR: 7.0 (‘17) vs 1.1 (‘18)
*For the cumulative stats, he has a little more than half the innings

Do thing my handle is suggesting.

For whatever reason, maybe he sees himself as some great value investor, Cashman loves his trade targets and often gives them longer chances than homegrown players.

At 11:17 AM, Blogger Rich said...

RAB as a post about the Yankees options with Gardner. As of today, I would just pick up option. We will see if that changes by seasons end

At 12:25 PM, Blogger Mike in Mississippi said...

A Yankees person suggested there’s no chance the Mets would have ever trade them deGrom, while a Mets person said that they would indeed make a big trade with the Yankees, assuming the Yankees understand that they’d have to pay a premium, just like a division rival might.

The suggestion made at least in broadcast circles was that the Yankees should trade wunderkind infielder Gleyber Torres for deGrom. But as to that, one Yankees person said it won’t happen for two reason: 1) They’ll never trade (deGrom) to us, and 2) We’re not trading Gleyber Torres or Miguel Andujar.

Link.

That there is even discussion of it is nauseating. There something about the Yankee mindset, and I mean from the suits, that is so clueless.

Here we are 20 years into his tenure, and Cashman has never made a good trade for a top of the rotation starter.

The reason he is viewed well by some are the deals he made as a seller, and the recent uptick in homegrown talent after extremely long periods of almost nothing.

At 2:43 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Hal said he'd rather make a move soon than later. So I wonder if they have something cooking.

At 4:12 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

German needs to figure out the first inning. Getting sick of the early runs.

At 4:17 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Gives up a homer on the first pitch, then strikes out the side with plenty of swing and miss. It's crazy. Neeed to grind against Snell, who would be a worthy target and still has years of control.

At 4:23 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Yanks go down fast in the first.

At 5:06 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

and in the third.

At 5:32 PM, Blogger Rich said...

It would not be crazy to add a litter offense.

At 5:37 PM, Blogger Rich said...

Hicks finally does something to keep his job prospects alive.

At 5:44 PM, Blogger Mike in Mississippi said...

I realize this is a nitpick, but I really wish Boone would move struggling hitters down in the lineup.

At 6:07 PM, Blogger Rich said...

I agree. Few managers do though.

German > Gray

At 6:08 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

German with 10K's through 6. Wild pitch cost him the third run, but he's getting very close to cleaning it up and becoming a #2 for us.

At 6:16 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Wouldnt be surprised if Drury and Frazier are back this weekend.

At 6:18 PM, Blogger Rich said...

Andujar’s playe looms larger now.

At 6:26 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Hopefully Toe will be going back down with the idea that Drury can play second when Didi needs a day and Gleyber plays SS.

At 6:28 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Judge with some singles...

At 6:30 PM, Blogger Rich said...

Stanton...frustrating...

At 7:07 PM, Blogger Rich said...

Win. Gleyber and Andujar. Who thought they would carry so much of the burden?

At 7:27 PM, Blogger Mike in Mississippi said...

For the sake of fairness, I will credit Boone for sticking with Betances when many, myself included, wanted him moved down the pecking order, and it’s paying off.

They really could use another bat until Bird gets going and Stanton and Sanchez begin performing like they’re capable of.

At 7:57 PM, Blogger Rich said...

Boone is mostly good, and may be dictated to on some decisions.

At 8:04 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Tyler Austin was optioned to AAA. I assume this move is for Drury.
