This Week on the Blog

Okay, this week saw limited Yankee action beyond them having to sleep at Dulles airport one night, Giants getting ready for their first OTA, the Knicks functioning rationally, and the Rangers possibly picking a coach.  Let's take a look at the week that's coming.

Yankees:  Yanks looked out of sorts last night and they lost to a terrible team.  Hopefully, they'll regain their alignment and start winning again.  The Florial news was bad and he'll miss a month or two or three of development time.  And as we think about Florial and the kids, we are two weeks and two days from the 2018 MLB Rule 4 Draft.  It would be nice to get some catchers and power lefties, both on the pitching and hitting sides.  The Yanks are picking 23rd, so their pool will be limited. Still they've been able to find guys all over these drafts and regardless of pick position. Oh yeah, and Greg Bird should be back this week.

Rangers: What was rumored yesterday is really flying this morning.  Apparently, Boston University's coach, David Quinn wants the Ranger job.  Larry Brooks is reporting that Gorton could make it official as soon as he gets back the World Championships in Denmark next week.  They had already met with Quinn before Gortona left, and I would guess decided he was their guy and made their offer pursuant to their organizational meetings which wrapped up last week. Interestingly, a lot of us have thought the Rangers would trade up into the the top 5 of the June Draft.  Currently they sit 9th.  And if they hire Quinn, the guess is they will trade up for LW Brady Tkachuk, the star of BU's hockey team. He's probably going top 4 or 5 so they'd just have to move up 4 or 5 spaces.

Knicks:  The Knicks were at the combine this week watching the workouts and meeting with the prospects.  They met with everyone we've been talking about as well as Kevin Knox and Miles Bridges.  Trae Young has already says he doesn't know if he'll work out for them in New York, which might mean he already has a promise from a top 9 team.  Now Coach Fiz will start his meetings with KP, as well as finalizing his staff.

Giants: Odell Beckham Jr. will attend the Giants first OTA which starts or takes place Monday. He has apparently taken Saquon under his wing and has talked to the kid about some of the mistakes he's made that Saquon can easily avoid. The OTA will also give Ereck Flowers his first reps at RT since he was a Freshman at Miami. Hopefully it will come back to him quickly and he can become a force at his natural position.

So there it is, Yanks have to start cruising again, the Rangers will probably hire and introduce Quinn, the Knicks are doing things right, and the Giants will get the fullest version of their team out on the field for the first time.

Have a great one!

Frazier is the DH tonight.

Hopefully he can hammer Duffy.

Remember when that moron said the Mets were set forever because they had pitchas? Because pitching pitching pitching was the key to winning?

Yet they pay that jerkoff for this bullsht.

Torres!

Trade Hicks now. This will not continue.

Great relay from Torreyes.

Rich, firm agreement. Hicks is blocking Frazier. Get a pitcher for him.

Sevy was awful tonight but still put up a quality start. Can't believe how many near homers we've had in this series.

Green is not what he was.

Judge and Stanton both with loud outs tonight.

Yanks youngest starting lining including the pitchers is under 29 years old for the first time since 9/26/70.

Let Frazier play.

Boone said he was very impressive with Frazier’s ABs. He called them very mature.

Good. Sometimes the light just comes on. That may be the case with him, and they can never have enough offense.

I didn’t listen long enough to hear if this was real or fantasy, but I heard Hahn talk about of course you would trade the 9th pick for Wall.

Here is the problem: he makes you mediocre; they need to suck to add talent through the draft. He has been hurt a lot. He brings cap issues.

Quick fixes are the reason I haven’t seen a championship from my youth to being well into middle age.

If Porzingis was healthy, maybe. There is no guarantee he makes a full recovery.

Fizdale met with Janis, which I think was a necessary first step. Let's hope they don't make a flash trade to keep the garden full.

So Sanchez gets four hits and is not in the lineup. Not only has Gray been bad, he costs the team offense every time he pitches.

Bbbbut passed balls.

Trade him as soon as pitches well for a while.

He is not worth the trouble.

Also no Didi or Frazier and Hicks is batting 4th.

If this is analytics the algorithm needs to be tweaked.

At 8:54 AM, Blogger Rich said...

And that is the case even if they score 20 runs today and Gray pitches a perfect game.

It’s about what is likely to happen not an outlier event.

Wait. A LHP is starting and no Frazier?

They better be showcasing Hicks because he largely sucks.

By no means do I mind Hicks being on the roster, but batting him cleanup and not getting Frazier in the lineup is annoying. And Rich is right about Gray just not being worth the trouble.

At 10:43 AM, Blogger Rich said...

I can be ok if he is on the roster but only as depth not a starter.

There is a chance that Frazier can be way above average. Let’s find out before they foolishly trade him.

Can't believe this lineup.

Gray with a stronf first inning.

Btw, I had hoped we'd have seen the last of the personal catcher after the debacle last time out. Especially since August Sanchez has shown up.

Bloop single. Dammit.

Austin has over 25% more RBIs than Hicks.

Austin has 8 bombs in under 100 AB's.

Gray looks great. If it means Romine catches him from here out so be it.

At 1:19 PM, Blogger Rich said...

First time caller. Long time listener.

At 1:23 PM, Blogger Mike in Mississippi said...

Gray needs to realize he is not CC Sabathia and doesn't have the clout to demand a personal catcher. I'm happy he's having a good game, but if he's gonna insist Romine catch him every time he takes the mound, then someone needs to bring him some correction, be it Cashman, Boone or whoever. (And I actually like Romine as a BUC, but like Torreyes, overexposure is gonna hurt him.)

I don’t know what Webb or Lauletta will ultimately be, but to make much of the depth chart at this point as some members of the media have, is goofy.
