Knicks Stay in Neutral at the Deadline

Earlier today, the Knicks finished their deadline dealings by sending the less valuable 2 they picked up in the Willy trade to Denver and Doug McDermott elsewhere for Emmanuel Mudiaywho had been the 7th overall pick in the 2015 draft.  The Knicks now control the 4th and the 7th pick from that one.  Big whoop.  The Nets now control 2 of the top 3.  We'll see how it works out.  In the short term the Knick have an even bigger logjam at PG, where they should have spent most of the season grooming Frank, who's been bothered by a knee of late.  Sort of sad to see McBuckets go.  He was an effort guy, and probably a glue guy on a real team. Oddly he joined the ranks of all world shooters, who suddenly could find their stroke for the Knicks.  So weird.  Back in the day, we had endless shooters. Anyway, it will be interesting or very frustrating to see what Hornacek, who's terrible, does with all these point guards.

It’s a swap of 2nd rounders.

Perry seems to be intent on acquiring players he liked coming out of recent drafts. That’s kind of questionable as a strategy, but assuming it’s a viable strategy, can he really point to any player Hornacek and staff has made appreciably better?

Zeke did that, too, to disastrous results. Fortunately, Perry, so far, hasn't blown any 1's on his fetish.

Rich, are you saying that the Knicks and Denver willl swap 2's? So the net number of picks the Knicks control didn't change?

Yes, Woj

Isola

Before the Knicks acquired a flawed point guard named Emmanuel Mudiay on Thursday from the Denver Nuggets they came close to acquiring Orlando’s Elfrid Payton, himself a flawed point guard with perhaps the worst hairstyle in NBA history.

The difference between the two deals was that Knicks general manager Scott Perry managed to land Mudiay in a three-team trade by only giving up Doug McDermott, who was originally acquired in the Carmelo Anthony trade with Oklahoma City last September.

To get Payton, the price tag would have been rookie point guard Frank Ntilikina and the Knicks refused to budge, a source close to the negotiations told The Daily News. Once that potential deal stalled, the Knicks pursued Mudiay and soon after the Magic sent Payton to Phoenix for only a second round pick.

So, currently we are the 10th worst team in the NBA, without KP and I think the 4th toughest record down the stretch, hoping for at minimum the #7 pick in the draft.

Maybe we'll finally get lucky in the lottery for the first time in 33 years. We should also release Jarret Jack ,

Fizdale loves the trade.

Kornet looks useful.

Ianazonne is contra Woj. He says it’s the Clipper 2nd rounder, no mention of a swap. They did get a $1.5m trade exception in the WH deal.

“He’s not a bad shooter — he’s a bad finisher,’’ Jeffries said. “That’s why his field-goal percentage is a big focus. If he becomes a better finisher — something very possible — his whole game transforms. Take out his layups, he’s not a bad shooter. If he’d finish at a 60 percent clip, he’d be 48 [percent] from the floor.”

That this issue is even asked about, imo, is ridiculous. There is no reason that he can’t play sufficient minutes on a bad team, either at the point or off guard. He needs to work on his game and acclimate himself to the NBA. As they say, experience is what you get while you are getting experience.

When asked about it, Knicks GM Scott Perry says that there has been no consideration to sending rookie Frank Ntilikina to the G League. He says Ntilikina, Trey Burke and Emmanuel Mudiay can all play on and off the ball.
