Knicks Trade Willy for Johnny O'Bryant

And 2 future second round picks.  O'Bryant is a rotational PF on a bad team.  He's 24, went to LSU, and was drafted by the Bucks, and had toured the D-League before joining the Nuggets and  sort of settling in with Charlotte last year.  He'll be 25 in June, and if they handle this selloff correctly, that will make him one of the oldest players on the team.

UPDATE: The 2's are both Charlotte's origininal's for `20 and `21.

FURHER UPDATE: Knicks will waive O'Bryant and keep the picks.

Going from being a key core piece to a marginal asset in a few months while being coached by someone whose tenure is probably temporary does not reflect well on management, who also hired the doctors, who had no problem letting the one star player continue to play despite recent pain against the Nets in the same knee.

Total joke. Mills is just a yes man, has no clue what he’s doing. Only hope for both teams is Jimmy to become a full time band member and sell. I take back what I said, he is way worse than Mara

FWIW Alan Hahn is okay wo5 this move.. he thinks it’s the beginning of collecting assets for a bigger play....

I think the positive of Hahn’s opinion is that he reflects the organization’s mindset, and has for a long time. So you get a window into their thinking. The negative, is it often doesn’t reflect reality. For example, a few years ago in the Melo/Woodson era, when they made the move for Bargniani he said they were all in. What does that even mean? They had zero chance of winning a championship.

It’s really hard to be good in the NBA because so few players control the direction of the league, and it now seems many of them want to play together. If anything ever changes for this team, it will be because they go to Celtic route with extreme patience. Anything else is just more mediocrity as the ceiling.

They're waiving O'Bryant. Let's see what else they do by the deadline before I put the FO on BLAST.

Mark Koncz hires to help evaluate the draft

That’s great news, and it’s another indication of how ineffective the last group was. Not that that wasnt apparent to everyone for years.

I think it’s about implementing a productive system. The last group may have had information, but they seemingly didn’t know what to do with it.

Rich, couldn’t agree more. Previous regime seemed to reach quite a bit... Gettleman is definitely not messing around. I feel more confident with Dave in charge of our high picks than I would of Reese were.

Gettleman sort of reminds of how Coughlin came back and knew how "to Giant."

Meanwhile, I'm not seeing the smart with the Knicks.
