Yanks Get Stanton
Okay, finally, the Yanks have acquired NL MVP Giancarlo Stanton for Starlin Castro, and prospects SP Jorge Giuzman (ouch) and Rafael Devers, who is Rafael Devers cousin and supposed to be similarly talents. The Yanks will also receive 30M if Stanton does not opt out of his deal at age 31. That's weird. But the Yanks have added another superstar from a distressed franchise, see Ruth, Babe and Rodriguez, Alex. This has been a wonderful formula. Many times I've noted on this blog, how I like my teams to become overwhelming in key dimensions. And I loung mourned the homers that left after Damon and Matsui split. Stanton solves this and by joining Aaron Judge in the lineup absolutely corners the market in power hitting corner OF's.
Also, it solves the problem of Starlin Castro at 2b and also his lack of plate disc. Because only two major leaguers were involved, the Yanks are still jammed up on the 40. But they could make more deals once they hit Orlando. Or any time now. They have surely done their diligence and this could be exciting.
And amazingly, Cash and Aaron Boone are siting together at the Kentucky/Monmouth college hoops game right now!
This is awesome. Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkaah! And a kicking Kwanza to those who partake.

I liked Guzman and Devers but Castro is addition by subtraction. Getting the reigning MVP in his prime for that package is ridiculous.
I also want to note that while we all wanted to spend on Harper/Machado, we can’t predict the future. I don’t see this move precluding them from going after Machado, assuming he gets to FA.
Additionally, while they are younger and probably better fits, they are going to potentially be on the open market and will average over 30 a year at minimum.
This deal locks Stanton in at roughly $21mm per year and im betting Frazier is going to be moved for a SP.
I would think so, too. And we have even more pieces that can be moved, and not just because of the number of OF's on the 40. Headley maybe, Romine probably., etc.
The good thing for the Yankees is no matter how expensive Stanton's contract is, he's still likely to make less than Harper will on the open market. I would have been fine paying for Harper because he's a sure bet to trigger the opt-out that will inevitably end up in his contract, but this works just as well.
I'm almost wondering if the Yankees wouldn't be better off waiting until the 2019-20 free agency class and signing Nolan Arenado, unless Andujar proves a keeper.
I've been thinking this would happen since I heard the Yanks and Marlins had talked at the deadline.
I do not want to add anymore big contracts.
Nor do I, unless they are earned in pinstripes. I do want to get rid of more veterans, though. And continue replenishing the farm.
Btw if you haven't, watch Stanton's homers folllowed by Judge's homers over on Youtube. Aye Carramba!
Well put.
Good “cap” rubdown by Sherman.
