Ohtani Eliminates Yanks

The Yanks have been informed that Shohei Ohtani will not sign with them.  Gutless.  Anyway, while that is disappointing in the short term, it does leave the Yanks with extra dough to sign some of this year's remaining IFA's instead of trying to jam them and anyone else under next year's number.  It also probably means CC will be back. And, finding out now, instead of in 19 more days does allow the Yanks to prepare for the Winter Meetings knowing they have a spot to fill, and perhaps onto their "Plan B" for a an offseason centerpiece, being that they are "big game hunters" and also, very close to launching another dynasty. I kind of like the young homegrown pitchers taking the next few spots that open in the rotation.

This would hurt a lot more if there wasn’t a ton of young talent that’s close to big-league ready. As it stands, Ohtani would have been a luxury — a really nice luxury, admittedly — not a necessity.

Would have helped the new dynasty, but not having him can't stop the new dynasty, and getting these younger IFA's might just extend the new dynasty.

Exactly. Even if they lost on Ohtani, they still win, assuming they spend this IFA money wisely.

This hurts and I guess it wasn't meant to be. CC will be signed soon I suppose.

I think they can wait on CC and see how the market develops.

How are the f’ing Cubs in it?

That's my question, too. The Rangers at least make some sense because he spoke to them before getting drafted by NPB, IIRC.

FYI, for all the Giants fans here, McAdoo and Reese are both fired, per Ian Rapoport.

Non Giant way but I’m pleased

The Giant way is dead, and rightfully so. Mara has been exposed. Lefs hope they somehow get the next Giant way right.

3 year deal for Boone with option for a 4th year.

I would like to know Boone's salary. I am sure it is a pittance compared to most other manager's out there.

According to Jonathan Mayo, the Yankees are “looking closely” at Cuban outfielder Julio Pablo Martinez and Dominican infielder Yunior Severino.

Martinez is 2 years older than Florial yet at the same level but with less upside. I'd prefer they stick to 16 and 17 year olds with their IFA money.
