Yankee 40 Man Day

Okay, the Yanks need to make more moves today between trades and DFA's, I'll keep updating here. The first breaking story is that they are trading Ronald Herrera to the Rangers, who or what for is unknown, but it cannot be a 1 for 1 for Profar, since he would have to go on the 40.

Update: I was right, it was for LHP Reiver Sanmmartin, who is 21. So we we now have 4 open spots, need at least 2 more and probably even a few beyond that.

Update 2: They've added Thairo Estrada and Gleyber Torres so far.  Two open space and more to make through trade or DFA's.

Update 3:  The Yanks have traded Garrett Cooper and Caleb Smith for RHP Michael King and International Pool Money.

Update 4: The Yanks have also added Billy McKinney,  RHP Domingo Acevedo, RHP Jonathan Loiasiga and RHP Albert Abreu to the 40.

So who are the next managerial candidates to be interviewed, or are they done and just waiting to make a decision?

No new names have come out, but I think they are having their organizational meetings in NYC now and asking the execs for more suggestions.

Cooper and another player apparently.

So assuming it's another guy from the 40, that gives us 4 open spaces with an hour or so to go, and no announced DFA's yet.

Yup, Cooper and Caleb Smith, for RHP Michael King and International Pool Money!

So we have 4 open spaces before any DFA's.

A prelude to a bigger trade with the Marlins?????

Does the money get us Cabello? Is it more to offer Otani?

Have to think it's more for Ohtani, or others if they don't land him.

Per Yankees' PR Twitter: The @Yankees have added RHP Albert Abreu, RHP Domingo Acevedo, INF Thairo Estrada, RHP Jonathan Loaisiga, OF Billy McKinney and INF Gleyber Torres to the Major League roster.

I just updated that. Debated lots of reporters about Loiasiga this morning. I was right and they are dumb.

Per Olney: In the Yankees' trade with the Marlins, they added $250,000 in international slot money. Extra dollars they can offer Shohei Ohtani.

What does that put the total at now?

30 min left...I thought for sure someone would look for Cave in a deal..

At 4:28 PM, Blogger Mike in Mississippi said...

Hmm, if my math is correct, that should give them $3.5M in pool bonus money, meaning they can offer the same as the Rangers.

I'd love a CB pick or two...

At 4:35 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

I think they wanted both Cave and McKinney, They're gonna move Ells or Gardy or both, and the great old Yankee teams always had lefty power off the bench.

At 4:49 PM, Anonymous yankyfan said...

Moving Ells would be epic!!

https://mobile.nytimes.com/2017/11/20/sports/baseball/yankees-manager.html

General Manager Brian Cashman said there were two purposes for the highly unusual decision to publicize the list of candidates.

First, the news media may dig up information on a candidate that the Yankees’ own background search has not — the cautionary tale being the Arizona Diamondbacks’ hiring of Wally Backman after the 2003 season. The Diamondbacks fired him four days later after The New York Times published an article detailing his arrests on domestic violence and drunken driving charges, and his filing for bankruptcy.

The other benefit is to observe how the candidates might handle questions from the news media — a significant and often stressful part of a Yankees manager’s duties. The manager is required to do it twice a day, 162 times a year in front of what is typically the largest media contingent in baseball.

“You’re an extension of detective work,” said Cashman, who listens in on the conference calls. “As well as lights, camera, action and see how people react, whether you want to call it mild questioning, tough questioning.”

Maitan pretty much bashed by BA's most resent scouting report.
