Yanks Start Their Moves

The Yanks just traded Nick Rumbelow to the Mariners for minor league LHP  J.P. Sears and 17 year old RHP Juan Then.   This creates one space of the 40, so the Yanks need to make more trades or significan DFA's.  It will probably be a mix. They can't get too sneaky with lower level guys who have to be protected.  Teams are now showing a willingness to play with 24 man rosters while stashing a future piece. Also, this is the third deal the Yanks have made with the Mariners lately, and hopefully it presages a deal for Jacoby Ellsbury in the next little while.

I thought that Axisa said that Then was the lesser prospect, but he definitely seems to have more upside.

It’s weird, because some of the Cashman’s lesser moves didn’t work out last year but the big ones did, kind of the reverse of what was happening before things got great here again.

I have no illusions about Axisa's prospect knowledge.

Kyle Glaser just said Then was maybe the highest upside pitcher in the Mariners system.

Cool.

Yes, Axisa can assemble facts but he doesn’t know how to interpret them.

Sears seems like a Jacob Lindgren clone.

Could be Buz..The more i read on Sears it seems his velo went up a few ticks this year. Most reports have hit 88-90 but then there are some that now have him 90-92 hitting 93..

I think a few more spots will be cleared soon. I hope we deal for a CB pick or two with the remaining surplus. Cash loves to deal with the Buc's and they have a few.
Should we drop a catcher I hope we keep Higgy but I think Cash will retain Romine.

I would not.

I would love to acquire a catcher named Now.

They have to make some more trades and DFA's today or overnight before the deadline.

They need a new back-up catcher and that's one of their biggest needs

Lots of Buc's in the FA pool this year. I hope they move guys for younger prospects at lower levels. Also, Then may be bigger then the listed 6-1 . That's not the norm being most players are listed as being taller then they really are.
