This Week on the Blog
Back from London and it seems not much has changed. The Yanks haven't made anymore moves, the Giants are still in the tank, the Rangers are moving toward consistency, and the Knicks are a young team that is pretty good at home and not so good on the road. Now let's take a look at this week.
Yankees: Yanks still need a manager and some new coaches. Also, the Yanks have some player moves to make before Spring Training starts, whether it be finding another Starter, or moving off some of the bad contract that are blocking kids. The Ohtani business may be holding up the market, but he could be posted Friday, and that should get some balls rolling around the league. Since there isn't even incremental money he can juice out of this process, there's no use in acting like a Boras FA, he should just make his decision and get to work, and so the hot stove can start working, too.
Giants: Giants are awful, but a lot of that is because they have important players on the DL, and not that they have a roster full of Leon Brights. I think they still have 6 games left, and it will be interesting to see if they give Webb any snaps. And it will continue to be intersting to see whether or not Wheeler can be one of 5 on a good OL. Or we can all just do something else on Sundays and wait for the firings and draft.
Rangers: The Rangers have been better after a rough start, but they could use some help, especially at C and D. Filip Chytil has been crushing the AHL as an 18 year old. That's crazy and a better coach would already have him centering the third line for the Rangers. Speaking of teen Rangers, Lias Andersson has caught fire overseas after what was apparently some overtrained legs in the pre-season. So the present is basically what it's been, aside from Buch and Mika doing all of the heaving lifting instead of Stepan and others. So the present is okay, but there is a lot of hope for the future.
Knicks: The Knicks are sort of hard to watch when KP doesn't play, and it's almost impossible for them to win when Enes Kanter and KP don't play. But they do try hard and that has not always been the case with the Knicks of the last 20 years, so it's refreshing. Oh, and Horny might be a good coach. Not bad. Will probably pick outside the lottery, where they could still find another player. Fun times.
Okay, so here's hoping the Knicks and Rangers do good things this week, and the Yanks start making impressive deals and increasing a loaded talent base. Giants, well - uh. Have a great week everyone.

I can only hope that the process has begun to find replacements for the cancel-ready Ben and Jerry show.
But I have no faith in ownership.

Yankees will interview more managerial candidates. They have 5 so far, but more to come. Time is on their side since they are only team looking.
Beltran included, apparently.
I'd like Beltran as long as he hired Bam Bam or Thomson as his bench coach.
btw, what I have seen with the Knicks lately is lack of defense of intensity, and lack of a point guard who can breakdown the defense consistently.
Cashman was named executive of the year by Baseball America. It was well-earned. He has gone from developing no one to developing a lot of players. So while he justifiably could’ve been fired for years, he is now on another level.
Geno Smith?
Given that we know Cashman has wanted to rebuild in the past (such as when Cano and Robertson left for free agency), along with Billy's description of Randy Levine driving too many baseball decisions in years past, I'm wonder if we're simply now seeing Cashman getting to make the roster the way he wants it to be built. Better late than never.
Maybe, but the strength of this team is the offense, and he was pitching-centric for a while, and add to that his former obsession with big hairy monsters. That’s stuff doesn’t strike me as Levine.
Whatever, it’s working
Eli did one thing wrong in his career. He should’ve publicly blasted Reese for years for failing him with the offensive line.
This franchise sucks because of what they have done to Eli over those years.
New post about Eli.
Beltran sounds like he is all in.
Shit.
“Just a sprain. Could have returned.”
The New York Yankees and Miami Marlins have reportedly had discussions regarding superstar slugger Giancarlo Stanton, according to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports.
Per that report, "the Yankees would have to include some combination of Jacoby Ellsbury, Chase Headley and maybe Brett Gardner to make their tax goal still work. And while it's a long shot, technically it's doable."
As Heyman noted, the Yankees have the young prospects to make a deal work. Per Jim Callis of MLB.com, the New York has the No. 8 farm system in all of baseball.
So the bigger issue would be the money considerations given the 10 years and $295 million left on Stanton's contract. While Miami would likely absorb some of that money, the Yankees would still be undertaking a huge financial commitment.
As Heyman wrote:
"The key for the Yankees, of course, is their long-stated desire to get under the tax threshold so they can reset their tax rate and play next winter when several stars are hitting the market, including Bryce Harper, Manny Machado (an even more likely target for them than Harper), possibly Clayton Kershaw, Josh Donaldson and many others."
The other issue in sending salaries the other way would be the fact that Ellsbury has a no-trade clause and reportedly doesn't want to leave the Yankees.
And, of course, there is the fact that a number of teams have been rumored to be interested in Stanton
