Ohtani Really Is Getting Posted
Late today, the involved parties agreed on a new posting system that will allow The Japanese Babe Ruth to be grandfathered in under the old system with a 20M payment going to the Ham Fighters, and the new rules running from next season through 2021. His posting should take place a week from this Friday or Saturday after the owners rubberstamp the arrangement next week. This should be a pretty straighforward deal for the Yanks, if he indeed wants to come aboard. At just 23 he could end up being a significant part of the dawning dynasty -- so let's hope it happens.

Hideki Matsui could play an important role.
Not getting my hopes up like I did when Moncada was available.
I think Matsui already has and will continue to.
Big difference between this and Moncada is Ohtani likely plays in the majors next season, won’t cost a pretty penny in signing bonuses and comes from Japan, which the Yankees see as a more “marketable” country than Cuba.
I agree yankyfan..
Will we go after any of the Braves prospects they lost?
I don’t think we’ll have enough pool money left go after the Braves guys.
I Would like to sign Appel to a Milb deal.. A look see couldn't hurt.
Someone is looking to consolidate ownership:
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-11-22/jeter-s-miami-marlins-are-said-to-seek-at-least-150-million
It also suggests they have to move Stanton, maybe quickly.
It will be interesting to see if they eat any of the contract...
I doubt they can in any meaningful way.
It also suggests to me that the process was altered so that Jeter could be part of ownership. It’s hard to believe they couldn’t find an ownership group with deeper pockets.
Jon Morosi:
Ohtani mentioned geographic location and the role he’d have, as key considerations in choosing an @MLB team. “I want to talk with as many people in the organization as I can, and see if it’s the type of place I want to play,” he told me. @MLBNetwork
Just reading between the lines, I bet Ohtani would prefer to play on the West Coast. Since he wouldn't be able to hit in the NL on days he doesn't pitch, I'm gonna go ahead and guess the Mariners will eventually land him. (Of course, Sabathia strongly preferred the West Coast when he became a free agent, and we know how that turned out. Still worth pursuing Ohtani as hard as possible.)
Are you talking about the weather and the closer flight to Japan?
Of course, geography could also refer to an area with strong Japanese culture.
Once posted, probably in the next two weeks, Ohtani is then eligible to negotiate with any team, but he is subject to the international bonus pool money available to each team. The Texas Rangers and New York Yankees have the most money available -- $3.535 million for the Rangers and $3.5 million for the Yankees -- while 12 teams are limited to a maximum of $300,000 (including the Dodgers, Cubs, Astros, Cardinals, Nationals and Royals). The Twins ($3.245 million), Pirates ($2.266 million), Marlins ($1.74 million) and Mariners ($1.57 million) are the only other teams with more than $1 million to spend.

I don't feel money will play big in his decision.
No do I, except perhaps for a kick ass marketing presentation, and of course, a sub rosa “agreement” on his next contract.
Agreed Rich
I have seen two quotes now about Otani wanting to stay west coast... Could be but i also recall the same being said from CC.
I would like to see the cost of Mike Minor
I don’t read a lot of sports news. If you have any links to some of that I’d appreciate it.
Here is a break down by HBT . They have the Yanks ahead in signing him. On Wednesday MLB radio with Philips said there are reports that Otani prefers the West coast and some feel the Mariners are the dark horse. https://www.fangraphs.com/tht/the-ohtani-algorithm/
A little surprised by the lack of movement by Cash. The Thanksgiving holiday period in the past has been an active time for him from Mussina to McCann. I guess the to do list is short this season and will be gauged by Otani.
Thanks for the link.
My guess is he is open to playing for the Yankees. I don’t know exactly what he is looking for in his written questions to MLB teams, but I suspect the Yanks can give him almost anything he wants or needs.
I just read something positive about Randy Levine. The End.
