Josh Bard to be Yankee Bench Coach

Josh Bard, the onetime journeyman Catcher, and 2005 Aaron Boone teammate in Cleveland will be his first Bench Coach. Bard's been working for the Dodgers since his retirement, and was recently their bullpen coach.  It wasn widely expected that an old manager would be the bench coach, but Bard hasn't managed. Rothchild has, as both Cash and Boone pointed out, and it seems like he wil be relied on to provide some mentoring.  That could actually make sense, since the tricky part is switching pitchers and Rothchild can handle that.

Not only was he a teammate of Aaron Boone, but was also CC Sabathia's Cleveland Catcher. Who knows if that will mean anything. I'm now thinking Boone, who is only 44, might be looking for guys his age or younger for his staff.  Bard is 39.

Update:  And Phil Nevin will be the 3rd Base Coach.

Further Update: and Mike Harkey will be back as Bullpen coach.  This concerns me because both Chapman and Betances went through terrible periods last year and we're not changing the pitching coach or the bullpen coach.  I think if we don't win, we can trace it to this.

Nevin and Boone were HS teammates.

I would have preferred no Girardi ties on the staff.

Heyman

Yankees are believed willing to pay half or so of the 68M to go on ellsbury in a potential trade. Bigger hurdle: getting him to waive full no-trade clause (he wants to stay)

I don’t understand why a team would be willing to pay him 11.5 million a year on their own.

Heyman

Stanton preserved his full no-trade clause while agreeing to waive it for yankees. So NYY won’t be able to trade him without his approval in future.

It would be cheaper to just buy him out

Rosenthal

One way for #Yankees to trade Ellsbury, assuming he will waive no-trade: Attach quality prospects. New team effectively would “buy” the prospects to take on negotiated percentage of Ellsbury’s contract: $21.1M through ‘20, plus $5M buyout for ‘21.

Yanks just announced the Stanton deal on Twitter.

This is good
Remember how important Boone said relationship with Sanchez will be? 1 reason Bard was hired as bench coach. He's a former catcher, but also both advanced scouted and was immersed in analytics with #Dodgers. He will be key person with Sanchez. #Yankees

Like what they are doing with the coaching staff. Wouldn't be surprised if some of the older coaches from before get jobs in the organization.

Still not sure about Garret Cole because of 2008., but the Yanks and Cole are getting tweets. I was hoping for Strohman or Archer.

Kay says they ate tying to get him.

I am against trading Frazier for him. I will have to accept it, but I hate it.

I'd love Archer but would the Rays really do an intra-division trade?

I'd explore Fulmer as well

I would trade Frazier for Archet.

I think Fulmer and Strohman are guys we explored at the deadline.

Guess I'm the only one thinking they'd be better off giving CC a one-year, $10M deal (assuming he'd take it)?

Than trading big prospects? I agree.

Cashman referred to Bard as Bardy.

I don't think they can get CC for 10M, and I still think, even if they could, they're going to trade for a young pitcher.

I agree that they will. Some targets would be more acceptable than others.
