Severino Conquers King Felix
Severino was brilliant again, and aslo getting squeezed again. He pitched 7 scoreless innings, and was credited with 6K's though he might have had 9 or 10 if the zone were standardized. Felix was getting a much bigger zone and it helped him K Judge looking at two balls. Ridiculous. But what we are seeing with Luis is the birth of an ace, and he's giving the Yanks length. And it keeps getting easier.
So while we watching Sevy do this, tonight several teams were looking at Domingo Acevedo in Trenton. If you think Sevy's combination of huge fastball, good change and killer slider (when it's working) is making an ace, well Domingo has the same three pitches and hits triple digits, too. He's 6 or 7 inches taller than Sevy, so it will look different to batters, but it is the similar filth. This is the kind of guy you hold onto and don't throw into deals over overrated guys like Sonny Gray. Domingo's at AA and probably won't get a taste of AAA this year, but could. That starts him in the mix for some time next year. Isn't it montrously reassuring to know you have another beast on the horizon than to throw said beast is a deal for anything less that a super star? Same goes for Mateo. Nothing out there is worth Mateo.

There is panic at the top.
I done like Kernan but he is spot on. You can't pretend you want to win and play Ellsbury

yf mentioned Darvish. He could be priced as a rental but they would have to take on his pro-rated $11m. That could be the real issue.
Trading Acevedo and Mateo etc would make Cashman's comment about smart trades not affecting the future risible.
That article is 100 percent spot on. Unfortunately, we all know that's not how it works in Yankeeland.
The Sawx admitted the Sandoval mistake. Why can't the Steins do the same?
Most Starts of 7+ IP and 1 or fewer Runs This Season:
Clayton Kershaw 10
Luis Severino 7
Max Scherzer 7
Has anyone actually watched Acevedo pitch before? I would package him in a heart beat if it brought back a front-end SP... I don't see any chance he stays a SP with his current delivery, there's zero command and extreme injury risk, which is why he's been hurt practically every year before this one..
Mateo also has to go on the 40 man this year; Outside of him getting hot in Trenton, he's been relatively disappointing as well. Would I trade both of them for Gray? I'm 50/50.
I don't want him

We now have Phelps, Pazos, and Goody who got a lot better when they left. It's time to move on from Rothschild and Girardi, the latter for a lot of reasons.
The bigger issue is that they haven't played well for over a month. They should be selling.
Good article on Gray. I'm 50/50 because he's cost controlled and has upside but is an injury risk and hasn't been consistent.. I also played with Sonny, so I'm probably a little biased but he's one of the fiercest competitors I know and moving into a pennant race in NY might raise his game.
Going into next year, we really only have Severino & Montgomery penciled in. CC is a FA, Tanaka can opt-out (this will be interesting) and Pineda is out all of 2018 and a FA as well.
Darvish is the only SP that I would even want (outside of Otani, if he's posted)..
Phelps got better because he moved to the pen full time but the other 2 never really got much of a look in NY. Disappointing for sure.
Mateo is already on the 40 man roster. He went on last befoe the last rule 5 freeze.
They spent ST and his time in high A fixing Domingo's Mechanics this year. That's why his numbers were a little rough in A, he was finally making the changes. And now that he has he's been super dominant in AA.
I believe in Freak Theory, Where hang onto your most gifted players, and I beieve it for every sport I follow.
I'd probably trade Chance before I would trade Domingo, and I see nothing available that would make me want to trade either.
There are making moves out desperation because they got that warm flush of good feeling with the amazing and unexpected start and they lost sight of the transitionary year that it is. They aren't good enough to make these kind of moves.
I think this is Levine and Hal but who knows.
I wouldn't trade Mateo for Gray given Gray's injury history and recent issues of pitching on the road (though in fairness his career numbers on the road are good). I could begrudgingly part with Mateo for Darvish, as he's an actual ace and acquiring him could give them an in to re-sign him, which could potentially help with Otani.
On Tanaka, I just see no way he opts out, which is fine, as I expect him to rebound next year.
I think we are set up to keep growing our own pitching. And really never want to have to re-acquire our own pitching again.
As an aside, did you notice Girardi had Robertson up two or three times last night. He's the wrong manager at this time.
Of course, and used Kahnle needlessly when we were down 6-1 the days before.
If this is true what are "we" offering?
Alonso out of Oakland lineup again tonight. A's trying to trade him, but Yankees are only bidder and Oakland doesn't like offers. -- @Feinsand

Hopfully items from outside our top 30.
I take that to mean guys they have to make decisions on with the 40-man in the offseason.

I know I've beaten thus to death but how do you not play Clint Frazier every freaking day forever...or so
As long as he is up there is no justification for him not playing save the occasional off day. In the interview with Francesa Cashman seemed to think Hicks wouldn't be back for another two to three weeks, and rosters would expand shortly thereafter, so he didn't think it was a big deal to send him down. Every game matters, though, and he increases the team's chances of winning.
Yanks looking at Darvish.
As always, it would depend on the price, but he makes the most sense IMO.
The issue with Frazier is twofold.
1) They are trading top prospects to win now, even though for the last six weeks they have been playing like the team that Cashman said wasn't good enough to trade for Sale. Frazier, at the plate, in the field, and on the bases is as good right now as any player they have perhaps except Judge.
2) Stop pretending about Ellsbury. He is literally killing them every time he plays and no amount of denial is going to change that.
Cashman can say all he wants on the radio, but come crunch time, if Frazier is hitting like this still, it would take significant intestinal fortitude to actually follow through.
