Castro Out, Wade On the Way Back

Castro is not in the lineup tonight, so the belief is he's headed back to the DL and Tyler Wade, who's been hitting again in AAA, is coming back.  Let's hope he hits better this time because he is the best defensive player or the team as soon as he's on the field.

Girardi all but said for now Frazier has taken Ellsbury's spot. "I'm going with the hot hand."

Good showcase for trade in Wade.

Frazier looks solid and hope he can play LF for the next 10 years.

They should trade Wade, he's the Super UTE they've always wanted to develop.

With Tanaka like this, they are in denial and their chances.

Yanks checked in on Stanton

My take: Not happening. Should not happen.

The ump stole 2 ab

Weird year for Tanaka. Outside of a disastrous May, he hasn't been terrible, he just hasn't been the ace we've come to know.

Smith starting Sunday.

I meant to say shouldn't trade Wade above. Meanwhile, and bad ump aside (he took the bats out of Judge's and Clint's hands) it took all of 3 days to create a new bullpen loss from a fresh pen.

Sell

And if they refuse to face the reality that they aren't good enough, this is the classic replace the manager situation.

Gamel looks good, btw. Why are they so stuck on Gardner? Ellsbury, will not finish his contract in this uni.

Caleb Smith starting today. Cessa has been terrible so...

At 9:56 AM, Blogger Mike in Mississippi said...

Cessa is fine in short spurts. He could be a good reliever, but they keep insisting on starting him.

At 10:05 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

I thnk they really should have spent more time seeing if Caleb Smith and Domingo German could be part of the answer, so far.

At 11:04 AM, Blogger Mike in Mississippi said...

German should be in the No. 5 spot IMO. I would like to see if Caleb Smith has it in him to be an ace reliever.

Girardi badly misused Germs

At 12:28 PM, Blogger Rich said...

This never made any sense but for the sake of the still sane among us, no one should use the phrase used here:
Jim Bowden @Jim_BowdenSXM

The #Yankees did NOT inquire about the #Marlins Giancarlo Stanton according to both teams. #FakeNews #FalseRumors #TradeDeadline

Todd Frazier actually got a hit!

At 2:28 PM, Blogger Rich said...

Gamel has hurt them.

If the Yankees lose today it will be yet another series they haven't won since mid June, which is incredibly frustrating.

I really hope this doesn't cast Caleb Smith in a negative light. I really do wonder if he can be an effective reliever.

Clint has carried this offense.

Bad send.

Series.

What?

Series.

Big win, and much needed day off for DRob and all of use tomorrow. Probably a trade day, maybe not.

At 8:01 PM, Blogger Mike in Mississippi said...

Hicks getting back and Holliday and Sanchez busting out of their slumps will go a long way.

At 8:11 PM, Blogger Rich said...

We all know they are trading fir a starter.

At 8:33 PM, Anonymous yankyfan said...

Darvish, Gray or Verlander. Probably be one if them.

At 9:39 PM, Blogger Rich said...

Olney had a column above where they could trade Ellsbury by taking back a bigger contract. I doubt anything is close but he is clued in. That may be what they are looking at.

At 4:12 AM, Anonymous yankyfan said...

Ellsbury included in a deal for Verlander. Yanks would have to include cash and include other players to balance out the deal.

Not sure if Ellsbury would approve that deal with a full NTC unless perhaps Detroit picks up his option for 2021.

At 5:28 AM, Blogger Rich said...

Part of it I believe would be that's Ellsbury would know that he would never play much here again.

@YankeeSource
Yankees have a +104 run differential (2nd in the AL to the Astros). The luck could be turning in their favor.

From Joel Sherman: "The Pythagorean theorem indicated they should be 58-39, which would have them in first place with the second best record in the AL. But the Yanks have the AL’s worst record in one-run games at 9-19, which has skewed their overall record."

Gonna defend the team for being buyers here for a second despite my reservations about how this team will perform down the stretch. A +104 differential, which is second in the AL. The record in one-run games suggests a combination of bad luck and bad bullpen performance, the latter of which we can all attest by simply watching the games or reading the box scores. So while the last two months have been incredibly frustrating, I can understand why management wants to try and bolster this year's team.

Matt Holliday seems to have been a good investment beyond his on-field production (post-mono slump aside: Holliday and Frazier

At 8:40 AM, Blogger Rich said...

OTOH, a part of the 1st half success was due to Pineda pitching better than he was, Castro producing at his absolute upper limit, Hicks being something he has never been, and Judge producing at historic levels

Then factor in that they plan to send down the player has largely carried them over the last few weeks.

Oakland has eyes on Florial. Ugh. Can't blame them.

Better not deal him.

Way to blow it to boost a mediocre team

At 9:03 AM, Blogger Rich said...

I don't want Gray, period

At 10:04 AM, Blogger Mike in Mississippi said...

If they trade Florial for Gray I legit might break the nearest object to me when that news breaks.

At 11:13 AM, Anonymous yankyfan said...

I hate to even say this due to Karma...but....I hope Gray who is scheduled to pitch tonight gets scratched and not because he is about to get traded

SAVE FLORIAL!!!
