Bird Working Out in SI

In some great news, that may save prospects at the deadline, Greg Bird has been taking batting practice and taking grounders with the Staten Island team this week, and reports are that he hopes to get a rehab assignment. This is the best possible bat the Yanks could get by the deadline, so let's hope he's really on the way back.

I'd sacrifice the remainder of the season in terms of being contention for his return to health and then would be willing to bank on the fact that he will eventually be very productive

So Manfred says the tech for robots behind the plate is years away. Separately, Joel Sherman says the difference in going from a 1-1 count to either a 2-1 or a 1-2 is .400 OPS points, as a consequence, highlighting how critical it is to get the call right.

With tech for self-driving cars just about here, and how much more is at risk on the road as opposed to behind the plate, it is very hard to believe Manfred's timeframe is accurate.
