More Yanks, More Deck Chairs
So today we found out why the Yanks let Gary Tuck go. It was so Giradi could bring back his pal Mike Harkey. It bothers me that a manager that I already think should be gone can get rid of a renowned coach like Tuck and bring in his buddy, who just got canned in Miami. The offshoot of this is that Tony Pena is the new catching instructor. So they went from having 3 coaches with catching backgrounds, down to two, and they let the one who is a great catching instructor go. This probably won't help Gary Sanchez as much. Not sure if Pena will be a good catching instructor or not. He was a very good big league cathcher for a long time, but he had an unusual style that might not work for anyone else, so I wonder what he would be comfortable teaching. Anyway, that's what they've done now and it seems like a Girardi comfort move instead of a sound baseball decision.

This is garbage. Losing Tuck only hurts catcher development for the organization. All for the sake of cronyism.
I think this shows that Cashman and his hand-picked manager are still on the same page.
It may also show that some players want to kick Girardi's duplicitous ass, and he needs his bouncer.
@AndrewMarchand
Tony Pena will work with the catchers, which should be something to watch cuz Brian McCann credited his improved throwing to Gary Tuck.

This reminds me of yet another reason to trade McCann and keep Murphy.
I hope that the Yankees will be run by really smart people again, but they aren't now.
But could Girardi at least wear a bag over his head in the postgame so we don't have to watch him snivel? It's sickening.
Lawyer who would have thought that we would ever say the Knicks are being run by smarter people..
Michael
It's still off of a low base, but yes, there are hopeful signs by the Knicks.

Agreed. I just can't for the life of me see how ownership allows this blatant cronyism. The Mets are better suited for the long haul than the Yankees. The constant mismanaging of resources, seems to be the modus operandi.
I don't understand how Girardi has so much power. Torre couldn't even do that, and he won more frequently.
Girardi is Cashman's guy in that he hired Girardi and trusts him to use statistical analysis in his decision-making (as opposed to Torre, who mostly went with his gut/veteran preference). I imagine he's grown in favor with ownership/Levine over his time here, too.
We have seen one public disagreement between Cashman and Gir, and that was over A-Rod playing first base. After the playoff loss, however, Cashman said Gir managed it perfectly.
Cashman didn't hire Torre, but he did hire Gir. So until proven otherwise I think it's his guy.
But to be honest, I can live with the stupid coaching moves. It's the players on the 25 man roster in the playing time they get that really concerns me.
Hey, very nice site. I came across this on Google, and I am stoked that I did. I will definitely be coming back here more often. Wish I could add to the conversation and bring a bit more to the table, but am just taking in as much info as I can at the moment. Thanks for sharing.

Phil -- I think a big difference from when Torre was managing is that Torre had to work when George was in overall charge. George liked to fire coaches as one of his petty power displays, as he did in the case of Mel, which in turn drove Pettitte away for a few years. I doubt Hal and Hank could care less who the coaches are, so the manager, who works directly with the coaches, gets more say as to who is on the coaching team.
Do you think this is a case of pure cronyism or could there have been a disagreement of some sort between Girardi and Tuck or Tuck and someone else at the top of the hierarchy? This sort of thing seems to be kept under wraps alot more successfully these days.
So Seattle got an OF. I didn't want the pitcher rumored in the deal largely because I don't like trading offense for pitching.
Ortizzle is supposedly retiring after next season. The Yankees should celebrate by having Price throw inside every chance he gets.
@YankeesWFAN: Steve Martone, NYY Mgr of Pro Scouting, moving to LAA as Billy Eppler's Assistant GM. #Yankees #Angels
If he is the reason they signed expensive free agents they chose to sign, bye.
Read something about Epplet that if true I totally disagree with. He likes players that are great at one thing; he doesn't care if they can't do other things. In baseball I want balanced players.
FOX reporter Ken Rosenthal reported Wednesday morning that the Detroit Tigers and Yankees had discussed a swap involving New York's closer Andrew Miller, but the asking price was apparently too high.
@jaysonst: Had one exec tell me this week he thinks Yankees "will move" Miller--for a big, Kimbrel-like package built around big-league ready starters
Can't blame Hal or Randy for the pitching craziness. Can't he impose his misguided ways on another franchise?
They stent signing Price, I guess.
Last year it was emulate KC's pen.
What about KC's ability to grind and hit the ball where it's pitched? That's what trumped the Mets' superior starters.
Anyway start Refs everyday and I will accepted it because it would demonstrate an appreciation of the hit tool of a young player who can grind.
We better get a ton for Miller and not like the crap we got for RJ and Sheffield.
"All I know is what I've always said: I shouldn't have to have a $200 million payroll to win the world championship," Steinbrenner said Wednesday. "It's been proven over and over again, right?
Yes you should because you've tolerated such shitty development for so long and when you have a young player Refs (and Murphy) you let your freaking manager use Drew to block him. More on Murphy below
"The last couple of years, the money that has come off, we've had to put it back in. Fill voids because we haven't had the young players to do it with. The guys that we picked up two years ago, the [Brian] McCanns and the [Jacoby] Ellsburys, they've been great. Glad we did it. A couple of years from now, the payroll situation will be different. I'll have flexibility. We will be active on the free-agent market. We always are. But I've got other options."
Look I don't care how many yachts he has, because I live well ( although no yachts) but don't lie to my face; they practically sucked And really you had to sign McCann because Murphy wasn't ready? Your general manager is lying to you.
