Yanks Trade John Ryan Murphy

Okay, I'm starting to hate this offseason.   The Yanks just turned their promising back-up catcher, into an older platoony CF.  Aaron Hicks is supposed to be a good defensive CF, which now gives the Yankees 5 that are major league ready: Gardner, Ellsbury, Heathcott, Williams and now Hicks.   I guess this means Gary Sanchez is the new back-up, C, unless they trade him for more of what they already have 4 of.   Hicks might play D, but he doesn't get on base, and I'd rather play any of the 4 we already had over this guy.   So, a huge no-diggity from me, and they should have traded McCann.

The GM has a poor baseball world view

This is insane and obviously more OF's will be moved.

Copying from Steve's post in the other thread:
"I think Gary Sanchez can play in the major leagues this year" Cashman said in response to the trade. You would hope that means he will be up; and not just in September.

If he really does get a shot with the team, I can sort of forgive this. As it stands, I'll believe it when I see it.

You have to get more than a 26 year old platoon OF for a young catcher who's a gamer like Murphy.

I agree. I'm just saying, if part of the thought process is they're going to give Sanchez a chance to establish himself under the tutilege of McCann, Pena and Girardi, then I would at least applaud them for showing dedication to a young offensive catcher with upside.

But I'm not convinced they aren't just going to ship Sanchez out for a pitcher and find a cheap BUC, which will only compound matters.

I think this assures us they are trading Gardy and maybe one of Slade or Williams.

Really hope one of those two get a shot if Gardner goes.

@Buster_ESPN: Yankees believe that if Brian McCann suffered a major injury, Gary Sanchez is ready to be an everyday catcher in the big leagues.

I'm far from crazy about this deal and sorry to see JR go at such a low price. What I take from this is that Hicks may be intended as part of a platoon with Williams/Heathcott and that they expect Sanchez to be on the team next season.

Murphy is better than McCann offense/defense right now.

He was one of the few effective Yankee hitters after the AS break.

Yes, it's great if Sanchez gets a shot, but getting Hicks makes no sense.

Reluctant to trade minor league prospects, and hesitant to add more aging veterans, Cashman has in the past year used existing pieces of the Major League roster to acquire young players who haven’t yet lived up to their potential in the big leagues.

Jennings spins as if the Yankees are paying him, but if a young player hasn't received a shot and the player ahead of him is in decline, his spin is stupid.

To me, it seems like this mediocre GM (I'm being kind) is more willing to give another team's players a shot than his own.
