Tanaka Completes the Sweep

Yanks just beat the Orioles 9-3 in a game that wasn't really that close.   Masahiro Tanaka pitched like a true ace through 7 innings where he'd given up 2 hits and no walks, though one hit was a homer.  He came back out for the 8th because the Yanks were short of bullpen option, and gave up two more homers as he got two more outs.  Might have been tiring, but he did exactly what the team needed him to do and that was give them length.

The offense once again got off to a quick start as Ellsbury singled, Gardy walked, ARod walked and then amazing Headley came up with a three run double (he moved to third on the throw and later scored).  Just a big day at the stadium, with the bad hitters in the lineup having good days.   Now they takeoff for a ten game road trip which will give them and opportunity to either put more space between them and the teams behind them or start sagging back.

Let's hope they play well, because as much as Cash says a move is unlikely, unless they run away on this trip, he'll probably make one and say this version of the team deserved a chance to go all the way.

A righty platoon bat and righty reliever are probably the most this team will do.

Francesser hears they are interested in Leak and/or Chapman. Like me, he doesn't understand the Chapman part.

Leak is a league average pitcher. How is that an upgrade to anyone but Cashless?

Stottlemyre was called up in '64 helped win a pendant.

Why do they now have veteran-Torrette's under this overrated GM?

Ramirez to the Pirates.

Doesn't that mean someone would take Headley???

Neither of those players make sense. I imagine there's nothing to that.

And you're right, there are SP options both on the big-league roster (Warren) and the minors (Mitchell) who would likely be a wash with most of what could be acquired, if the Yankees truly want to hold onto their high-end prospects.

Ramirez is a half a season rental player and will retire at the end of the year.

Who plays 3B if Headley is traded? AROD?

If it's true that the Cashless really wants Prado, that would be the condition precedent to doing that, depending on what it would cost to get Prado.

Prado is a better 2B than a 3B. He would be a better fit to unseat Drew.

I doubt the Yanks will re-acquire Prado.

An infield with Prado and Headley would suck.

Obviously my opinion means nothing but I can only enjoy this season if Refs is brought back. He earned it.

I can enjoy it if they win it all, especially with guys like A-Rod and Teix rebounding, while at the same time being critical of the front office's boneheaded strategy of running the team. I would view it as the last hurrah before the inevitable crash due to over-reliance on older players/journeymen.

I should have said truly enjoy.

I am nauseated by the decision makers, personally and professionally.

I dream of what smart people could do given the abundant advantages that have been wasted for over a decade.

I hear Met fans complain about the way the team is run. Look at the rotation that has been developed. They spend half of what the Yankees spend. That is an owner that is truly a problem.

Lawyer;

If you are having a tough time enjoying the Yankees this season, imagine what it must feel like to be a Mets fan these days!! That lineup they trotted out last night is worse then a AAA lineup. And against Kershaw yet!!!

Flores batting 3rd, Mayberry batting 4th????

Yes, the Mets' owners refuse to spend and that offsets a great job of developing a rotation.

But my frustration with the Yankees is that they have it all put on a tee for them, but they refuse to even give a young player like Refs a chance when the alternatives are awful.

They don't give an opportunity to Mitchell or Severino even though they reportedly want to upgrade the rotation.

This pattern has put them in a position in which in order for them to play at a high level, two older hitters have to rise from the dead.

I think the Mets are in really good shape.

Some complain about Hal, and he is a dope, but if you put his money behind what Alderson has built, they would be scary.

Elias--The Mets became the 2nd team since 1920 to start No. 4 and No. 5 hitters with batting averages under .180 and at least 100 ABs

Imagine what even $20-$30mm could buy them if the owners would spend.

One of the big problems these days is that great hitters, who can also field, don't often become free agents anymore. And the Mets can't hire DH's.
