I guess he'll compete with kids at the back of the rotation. Although, kids should be competing with kids back there. Still probably need another starter, since this doesn't do anything.
I don't necessarily have a problem with them signing him just to have a body there (aside from the team inevitably keeping him way past his expiration date if he continues to pitch poorly), but how in the world do they figure him to be worth $5M?
The Yankees' infatuation with throwing money at journeymen types is certainly one of the more curious things I've noticed as a fan.
Anyway - Capuano. My take is that he is here to compete for the bottom of the rotation, and move Warren back to the pen, where he is very effective. Solidifies the bridge to the back end - be it Miller or Dellin at the end (although I still expect the Yankees to bring a guy like Soriano or Grilli in to maintain the Betances-Miller setup tag team).
After Nova returns, IMO, Capuano is gone, unless there are injuries elsewhere. There is no room in the pen, with hopefully Phelps there, and Miller and Wilson, along with Lindgren sometime in 2015, already there. So Chris is a fill-in starter until Nova comes back.
It is not a bad move. Gives Mitchell time to work a bit more in AAA, along with Whitney.
Phil - I don't know why, but I am down on Man Ban. 2015 is a big year for him. He must show consistency, and needs to log innings - at least in the 110-125 range - if he is to ever make the show in the next 2 years as a starter.
Can't have him come up and get worn down after 50 innings like Whitney last year.

5 mil for this bum? unbelievable.
It's gross, but shouldn't be too hard to throw into a trade once everyone beats him out and other teams get injuries in their rotations.

Probably meant "Max," as in Scherzer.

It's not awful. just boring and uncreative. Though, if they also bring back Kuroda on a one year deal, they are saving spots for Luis and Manny.
$5M for someone who should, at most, sniff $1M, is pretty bad.

Manny just needs his fastball command back.
When is Kenta Maeda getting posted?
No draft pick and just a 20MM fee..
