Yanks: Job Openings
Another thing the Yanks didn't use the Winter Meetings to accomplish was to hire more staff and coaches. Their still open hitting coach position has been much discussed, but they have also denied that Marcus Thames has been named assistant hitting coach. We'll see about that one.
But they also need a AAA hitting coach, as well as a AA manager, and perhaps more coaches depending on who else got canned or re-asssigned from the Trenton program.
Because they promoted Gary Denbo from hitting czar to farm head, they need another hitting czar. Because they made Mario Garza a DR coordinator, they need a new SI manager. The SI manager is, of course important, because he is, at least for the college kids, the first manager prospects will have once drafted and he needs to start learning them up!
And they still haven't unveiled their new 4 part structure. So, aside from getting their rotation straightened out, they still have to staff up the minors and the 4 divisions of the system.

Current Yankee idiocy/futility summed up by Michael Kay echoing what Cashman has said:
Caller: I would've liked to gave seen Shane Green stay. I like seeing homegrown kids develop.
Kay: The Yankees are not going to wait for kids to develop.

Does Baby Huey really think that Gregorius won't require patience and development?
Next time you feel that you're getting something for nothing and you feel a little guilty, think about Michael Kay.
Way dumber than Mike F.
Michael Kay was also the guy who said that Girardi would have the Yankee pitchers throwing at other teams incessantly...
And that's has not born fruit.
Thanks for the post -- good to have a recap on this topic after all the hurly-burly about player moves and non-moves. My optimistic side tells me to hope that they're looking for Gil Patterson-level talent and aren't willing to settle on the hitting equivalent of Nardi, but my pessimistic side says how do you spell SNAFU.
What's troubling about Kay's comment is that the only conceivable reason Kay is doing Yankee broadcasts (not to mention has his gig on YES) is that he toadies to the Yankee brass. He isn't a professional broadcaster (his background is newspapers) and doesn't have any particular aptitude at broadcasting . . . and this is before one gets to his shallow understanding of the game. So when he says something like that, I worry that he heard it somewhere, or, worse, that he was told to leak it by someone in management.
If it's just Kay's opinion, on the other hand, it's worth the price of the air he spoke it into. And that certainly has happened, as Kale points out.
Feels like they re-assignd anyone with old or bad ideas, but we'll have to see what the final mix looks like. And what the new divisions and titles mean. I hear Denbo is already doing a good job with everyone down in Tampa.
Headley is on board - 4 years at approx. $50 million.
I know most here are against this, but I like it, if it means that Refsnyder gets a shot at 2B, and if he succeeds, Prado becomes a super-sub, playing 5-6 times a week at 4 different positions.
