Yanks Minors Stuff

The Yanks have re-signed oft injured RHP Jose Campos to a minor league deal.  They also signed 2b/3B Cole Figueroa and C Juan Gaterol.    Campos is the one who might still turn out to be something, and was thought to be the steal of the Pineda deal.  Since then, though, he hasn't pitched much, nor shown the stuff he had before the trade when he's been healtby enough to pitch between injuries.   We'll see if he can put himself back on the map.

No word on Slade Heathcott, yet.

RE: A point Phil made in the other thread... If the Yankees do sign Moncada, third base might be where he best projects.

I actually think Moncada will end up in the OF.

Capuano will get $5M on the 1-year deal. Back-end-of the rotation type who has also relieved.

Any thoughts as to what the Yankees might do if ARod simply doesn't hit? Will they keep him in the regular lineup if it becomes clear that he won't get to 700 HRs before his contract runs out? Keep him on the bench where he would be absolutely useless? Release him? 60-day DL him? Is his contract insured, and if so what would the Yankees need to do in order to prove that he was unable to play because of injury?

I'm raising these questions because I wonder if it is right to take for granted that ARod will take up a roster spot for the next 3 years. I imagine that both the Yanks and ARod would be amenable to a face-saving way to get out of the contract if ARod can't contribute to the team.

Agreed re Capuano. But at least they see him as a placeholder rather than part of their long term plans. Let's hope that everyone stays healthy, Nova returns at full strength, Mitchell shows he can pitch in the bigs, and Capuano finds himself as the long man. Wishful thinking I know, but at least it isn't a mediocrity blocking some decent prospects by virtue of an expensive multi-year contract.

I have some thoughts on Capuano. I'll post them in the next thread.

Bottom Line: It's not as bad as it seems at first glance.
