Yanks Turn Down Phillips for Gardner

This came as very reassuring news as it exploded over twitter this evening.   The Yanks according to a few reports turned down the Reds offer of their overrated 2B Brandon Phillips for the Yanks' underrated Brett Gardner.   Phew.  That was exactly the kind of deal I was afraid to see.  As I mentioned all along, I would prefer to keep Gardy.    Failing that, I would prefer to trade him for a package of younger players or one with elite talent in some area as Gardy is an elite defender with elite speed.   However; he'll probably get traded - if he does - for a pitcher.   I wouldn't have minded the Austin Jackson mix had that been real.   Anyway, with their seeming disregard for age and OBP this offseason that they might swap Gardy for Phillips was a legitimate concern.  That they haven't is cause for legitimate relief.
