Yanks Lose Kahnle, Santana, O'Brien and Two Others In the Rule V

The Yanks lost hard throwing reliever Tommy Khanle to the Rockies in the big league portion of the draft.   They'll probably be able to get him pick, because it's unlikely he'll stick on the Rockies 40 all year long.   On the other hand, in the minor league portion of the draft -- players they can't get back -- the Yanks lost Ravel Santana.   Till 2011 Ravel was one of the best prospects in the Yankee system and looked like he could even be one of the best OF prospects in baseball.  Then, during a GCL game, the literally destroyed his ankle.  Worse than David Adams.   When he finally came back he was not the same player, then they decided he needed glasses.   And he still wasn't.    Now he's an Astro, and it doesn't get much worse than that.

They also lost Mikey O'Brien who was one of their prep RHP who actually looked like he might make it to the show.  He was moved along pretty slowly and now he's a Red.    They also lost RHP Felipe Gonzalez to the Pirates and RHP Kelvin Castor (who used to be a bad hitter) to the Marlins.    That's a lot of players getting taken out of a supposedly bad system.

The Yanks were able to keep Burawa, Whitley and Lewis who might be able to help the bullpen at some point in the not too distant future if they're not all blocked by FA's or fungible vets.
