JR Murphy Promotion Should Start a Chain Reaction

Josh Norris is reporting that JR Murphy has been promoted to AAA.   This is a well deserved promotion for JR.  For the first time he'll be playing his games in a more or less pitching neutral park.   So we'll see that he really is a good hitter.   Importantly, this also will allow Gary Sanchez to move to AA and Peter O'Brien to move to high A Tampa.  These three have probably been the best position players in the system thus far , though Slade and Tyler Austin have been waking up, and the promotions have been obvious for a month.    But it's really good that they are happening.  Why?

Because it makes it possible for JR to be up in September or perhaps after 100 good AAA at bats, and Gary could be up as soon a next year.    They are both better prospects than Austin Romine and could share the position for a few years at the big league level.  Just a very interesting turn of events.

Phil;

It's good to see your time free up and you getting the blog going for the draft. You do a great job with this and the rest of us benefit. Thanks.

I am hoping that Sanchez moves to AA quickly. He deserves it and he is ready. He is having a solid year.

Looking forward to all the Catchers moving up. There are not too many others ready (performance-wise) for a promotion at this time. Maybe Enns from Charleston to Tampa. I think Depaula stays where he is for a while.

DePaula should be promoted even though he had his second bad start yesterday. He's a little old for the league and he hasn't been challenged.

The SAL first half has 5 games left and they are in playoff contention so after that he's probably gone.
