The Return of JJ

Jarred Jeffries is apparently getting out of his contract with the Rockets in order to re-join the Knicks. Now, on the face of it, this might create some dread among Knick fans. Well, it shouldn't. The trouble with Jared Jeffries was never Jared it was his contract (thanks, Zeke!). Jared Jeffries is an excellent defender who is long and can really run the floor. He's a D and glue guy for a team with stars. Last time he was a Knick, there were no stars. With smart players like Billups, Amar's and Melo, he's not going to accidentally get the ball on O this time around. This is a really nice fit, for these Knicks. Let's see what else they can do to win now! Go Knicks!

The other thing about Jeffries is that Layden has said that if he didn't make that moronic trade of Nene for an already injured McDyess, he was going to take Jeffries, which would also been moronic, because it meant passing on Amare.

Yes. Let's leave the past right where it is. He has more value for us now, than he ever did before. Also pretty cool that he wants to come back.

I'm just reminded of Layden because there has been so much talk about Isiah lately, including by the owner.

On purely basketball merits, I think he was a better GM than Layden.

But for his draft picks, we don't get Melo.

The problem certainly didn't start with Isiah, but it sure got weirder.

Yup, mostly because he let Marbury run wild for too long.

Anyway, I think the key now is to try to find out what Jeffries, Brewer, and maybe Williams (it sounds like Balkman isn't going to play) can contribute to give this team some depth beyond the core players.

To me, the goal is to win a playoff round.

Win a round and get players who fit in the draft.

Phil you sense any other moves for bigs or backup guard? TJ Ford? I sense that Mason Jr will be the first to go..

UNACCEPTABLE!!!! Embarrasing!!! No Defense, no rebounding, no Coach!!!! Donnie better find a big and fast!!!

Michael, like their fans, I believe the Knicks are a little toasty from a week of turnover. It's all about how we roll into the playoffs. Weve got some bigs coming and they will help.

I'm glad that D'Antoni used Balkman, but their lack of a defensive mentality could make this unavoidable transition harder than it would otherwise be.

I hope you are right Phil. It's one thing to lose to Boston or Miami, and get killed on the boards. Cleveland??? For our team that is supposed to be growing, we cannot afford setbacks like this. I understand it's a process and it takes time, but they should have been better against this team... The next 2 are going to be tough... Besides JJ, any thoughts on the other bigs they may bring in?

I would think it's highly unlikely that they can't add anyone else would play much.

They have another small:

Per my homie (sorry), Steve Adamek:

Kelenna Azubuike, who has been out all season recovering from knee surgery, could make his return to action soon.

Azubuike told the media he could have played in Wednesday’s game against the Bucks.

Michael, they's shown all season that they can lose to a bad team then beat a good team. That will get ironed out as they gel, but they have to gel. And that will take time.

There is an issue that is being brought up, and there is no way to know for sure how it will turn out, but the new CBA cannot penalize teams for having max contracts if the new max turns out to be lower. So if, for example, the new max turns out to be $15m, a team with $20m maxes now have to be given a $5m credit for cap purposes. Plus, the franchise tag would also hurt the Knicks.

I agree that it takes time to gel. I guess part of it, is they show flashes of being good, and perhaps the expectations are a bit higher.. Over time I do agree once they gel, get the big, and CP3 or Deron that should be enough to be a perennial contender!

Broussard/Stephen A have both said NBA does not want to break up the "super" teams.., and that the new CBA would have provisions to allow 3 max players..

At 9:30 AM, Blogger Rich said...

But they can't have a franchise tag otherwise it will be tough to get that third max player.

At 9:53 AM, Blogger Michael said...

Rich you are spot on with your analysis. Of the big man options whom do you like? Do you prefer CP3 or Deron?

There's not gonna be a franchise tag. It's not even on the table.

It's gonna be CP3. The Toast tells the truth.
