Kay is reporting that his sources say that Isiah is in fact in the running for GM, that he has increased input in basketball decisions, and that Isiah believes that if he had gotten involved in the LBJ talks earlier, the Knicks would have gotten him.
It occurs to me that if you could merge Isiah and Houston into one person, you might have the perfect GM, but...
Multiple reports say the Yankees are not willing to deal Joba for Haren.
So, evidently, they were willing to deal Montero for a three-month rental of Cliff Lee, but not Joba for two and a half years of Haren.
I am truly dumbfounded by the Yankees front office sometimes. They have shown they have no clue with Joba, and now they won't include him in a deal with secondary prospects for a difference-maker? Ponderous.
I think this was more about Haren's contract than the cost in player personnel assets. As Sherman pointed out today, it could have impacted their pursuit of Lee.
As I have said before, Eiland is at least partially responsible for Hughes and Joba's failure to thrive.
Olney was saying this morning he expects Scott Downs to be a Yankee prior to the deadline. Klapisch said the Yanks would pursue Lee regardless. Losing Andy and Javy frees up 23 mil, not sure I buy it's the money..
Not to give Eiland a pass, but there are other pitching coaches in the Yankees' system Joba could've worked with. The fact that the Yankees seem to think that's everything's OK with Joba is much more damning that anything Eiland has/hasn't done.
Phil will either finish developing his curve and change, or fall by the wayside. That's up to him.
Klapisch doesn't understand that Joba an Hughes are arb eligible and will make about $4m each. Granderson and Swish get raises. Add it up. If the want to keep the payroll at or near $200m, it's the money.
It's not only on Eiland, but it's not everyone but Eiland either.
-The Yankees never offered Jesus Montero to Kansas City for Joakim Soria. Soria is a nice relief pitcher on a team-friendly contract, but still. You don't deal a bat of Montero's caliber for a guy who's going to be a setup man for at least three more seasons (assuming Mariano Rivera signs a two-year extension following this season). That's not a good deployment of resources.
We already know that the Yankees were willing to deal Montero for Cliff Lee, and maybe another premium need will arise, pushing the Yankees to trade Montero. But a setup man is not a premium need.

Go Park. No, seriously, go...
Why exactly is Miranda batting fifth?
Girardi has been clueless today. Why in the world did he leave Vazquez in the game? Wow.
RIP Ralph Houk
He was the manager when I was a kid. Glad they're wearing a band for him.
I think they should wear one thing for all three men, but that's just me.
Any SS in the mL would have gotten to the ball that Jeter couldn't reach.
You know what, compared to Posada's two plays (one costly, one almost was), Jeter's play wasn't that bad. I realize that's a low bar.
OT, Allan Houston? Really?
Girardi is insane for trusting Chamberlain in close games at this point, especially when Robertson threw like four pitches in the seventh. Geez.

Hearing that Ivan Nova would be key piece for Arizona in a Haren deal w/ Yankees. Talks progressing #yankees
Joba Chamberlain, Ivan Nova and Zach McAllister looks like package being offered for Haren from Yanks - could get done over weekened [sic].
Gambo620
John Gambadoro
Phil what do you think of these Haren talks? Would this mean in the winter we focus on Crawford, and not Lee?
Isiah is delusional if he thinks he would have brought Bron to the Knicks...
Klapsich told some guy that they'd still be in on Lee.
Yes to sending Joba far, far away.
I would think, if the Yankees are still going to be in on Lee, that it means Pettitte has told the front office he's retiring after this season.
Gambo620: Yankees have been frustrated with Joba this year as he has failed as the 8th inning guy and are more open to trading him
Most of Cash's non-money related trades have been bad, so trading low on Joba wouldn't surprise me.
He should stick to developing from within.
Joba will never amount to anything for this team.
Albaladejo goes down, and Gaudin remains on the roster with Mitre back? Cashman is horrible at roster construction.

I would be against either deal, but yes, the idea of trading Montero for a rental of Lee is so offensive it's sickening.
Keep bringing Joba into the 8th inning Joe.
And Cashman, I'm so glad you're making Joba keep us from getting Dan Haren.
And the Angels get Haren.
Really hope Joba wasn't the reason we didn't land him.
Yay for Mitre every fifth day, and Joba in the 8th! Good job, Cashman!

Can we stop hearing this idiotic nonsense about trading Montero? If Cash is really offering him for Soria and it’s not media bs, he should be fired.
Agreed. You don't trade Montero for Mariano Rivera in his prime, much less Soria. And I want Soria badly.
