Here Comes The Correction

In the last game of the "first half" Mark Teixeira had 4 hits to finally push his average over .250, as the Yanks clobbered the Mariners 8-2. He's hitting like he did during his correction last year and we should be in for a torrid second half. CC was once again utterly ace-like in picking up his 12th win. Cano and Gardner continued their great seasons and Derek Jeter started hitting the ball hard again. If they can get the pen scotchguarded, they are going to have a much better second half. They are 24 games over .500. Enjoy the break!

Phil, is it true, as DWells4President said on NYYFans, that the Yankees value Romine more than Montero at this point? I hope not.

If it's true it won't be for long. And it doesn't match up with what I've heard from them in the past.

If they do, it has to be because of defense. But Montero's bat projects to be so good that even if he can't catch, or can only catch like 50 games a season, he would still be extremely valuable.

I probably wouldn't recognize 90% of NYYFan posters now.

I'm only a lurker myself, but I especially like to keep up with the minor league forums a bit.

I'd like Montero to be the DH until further notice, starting next season.

Here's what I don't understand.

If Montero is Edgar Martinez with power at 20, what organization in their right mind wouldn't covet that when you can have that kind of talent cost controlled.

I'm talking about both the Yankees and the Mariners.

I know the Yankees are attached to their older veterans and want to keep DH as the old age home, but why?

Why wouldn't you put a 20-something RH masher who can catch once in awhile in that role full time?

So we can watch Jeter and Posada fade into the sunset of their careers as DH?

It makes no sense to me.

In 5 years the core of this team will be very different and a guy like Montero should be a huge power hitting part of it.

I get why you offer him for Cliff Lee. Cliff Lee guarantees a title this year.

But I don't see why the Yankees would value Montero less if the bat is what is being projected.

I hope this near miss of a trade is just a blip on the career of Montero, but I'm worried this current regime doesn't want to give him his chance here in the Bronx since they are beholden the concept of the old age DH home.

I think the Yankees are too concerned with winning as many WS as possible before Mo, Jeter, Pettitte, Po, and A-Rod fall off a cliff. I think trading Montero for Lee is gross overreaction, but that's where I think they are coming from.
