Jesus Saved!
The Cliff Lee deal is off, and Jesus Montero is still a Yankee. We'll, no doubt, see Cliff Lee in FA, and hopefully not see any other superstars the Yanks are interested in put on the market for awhile. Montero, who's been hot lately, lately needs to keep on keeping on, come up in September, and show everyone he really is okay at Catcher. Cash has to not offer him around, because every time he does, it devalues him. Texas got Lee, but we got Jesus. Go Yanks!

I still want to see if Kansas City would do a swap of Joba for Soria.
The Yankees can say what they want, but the fact that they have twice offered Montero in trades for pitchers over 30 offers a pretty strong indication that they have serious doubts about his ability to remain behind the plate. If they were convinced that he could, with his bat, they would never, ever trade him. Actions speak louder than words.
They tried to trade Cano for Randy Johnson. Sometimes these things just work out for the best.
Absolutely, but Randy Levine handled those negotiations.
I still think that there is a chance that Montero will ultimately be traded. I just hope it's for top tier a SS/3B under 3o.
I don't think it's an indictment of Montero's catching abilities as much as it is about keeping Halladay/Lee out of the AL East.
Where in the East was Halladay going?
Anyway, I hate block moves with costing to prospects.
Red Sox were interested, IIRC.
Obviously I share the concern that Montero will be moved, now that he's been offerred. He needs to start really hammering the ball, so they can forget about the logistical problems his presence might create with the 25 man roster.
Sometimes the best trades are the ones you don't make, while I wanted Lee now.. we saved our prospects and will get Lee in Free agency anyway
Another reason why the trade would have pissed me off:
