Not Looking Good

Either this is the greatest smokescreen since the Warren Commission Report, or LeBron James has changed his mind in the last 24 hours and is going to the Heat. Now, at the outset of this free agent season, I said LeBron James or failure. Well, it may be failure, but I can't kill the Knicks. They did everything right for two years and tried their best. They did that for us as much as for LeBron. So, unless this is an amazing smokescreen, we're not going to get LeBron. But we have a team that is trying, which is more than I can say for most of the last ten years. Go Knicks!

This is about one thing: He doesn't want to play in NY.

The Knicks with Amare and LeBron would be as good or better than Wade/Bosh.

It has nothing to do with Jordan Hill or the Knicks, so there is no failure in that regard.

It has everything to do with LeBron.

I thought that the Yankee cap he wears meant that he wanted to play in NY. But it only meant that he is a front runner.

Dan whatever his name is compared it to A-Rod joining the Yankees, but A-Rod was willing to give up money to play for the RS, and only came to NY when the MLBPA blocked him.

That said, I have no interest in watching the NBA, and won't for years to come.

Rich,

If Lebron is a front runner, I do think what was left on the roster talent wise mattered to him.

Apparently, it also mattered to him that he could bring Wade and Bosh with him and the Knicks should have known that and tried to make that happen before inking Amare.

Maybe they saw the handwriting on the wall from the get go and knew they were a long shot, but they had the same cap room that Miami has (even more I think) and they didn't pull this off. They could have used Lee as a sign and trade to make it happen.

I agree with you that Lebron didn't want NY. But NY didn't offer him much talent wise to come play with. Gallo and Chandler are nice players, but they aren't the type you come sign here for.

If the Heat can fit those three under the camp, the Knicks surely could have, but committing to Amare and not working harder on Bosh and Wade may have ended this thing before it started.

The Knicks reportedly made an offer that proposed that three players could accept less than max money, but apparently they weren’t the preferred destination for these players.

They had to renounce Lee’s rights in order to have max cap room.

StePHEN A. said that LeBron’s camp had concerns about how long Walsh would be in charge (his health may be an issue given the second surgery in a couple of years), that D’Antoni wasn't the attraction that some think because he doesn’t emphasize defense, and that the Knicks would have had a better chance of attracting big FAs if Isiah was still around because players like him.

Again, Miami's supporting cast basically sucks too. So if it was LeBron/Amare and pieces and Wade/Bosh and pieces, the Knicks would not have been at a disadvantage.

As I have said before, what has killed the Knicks is the extra few wins that they have picked up at the end of the season which reduced their ping pong balls in the lottery. That has happened since Don Cheney was the coach, and it probably cost them one of Bosh/Wade when they were drafted, and other players as well.

The Heat aren’t giving out three max contracts, so yes, the Knicks could have done the same thing, and they said that to LeBron.

Since he said no, it’s reasonable to conclude that NYC doesn't appeal to him.

Just not looking good, but it could all be smoke. I really don't see how Stern would go for this and he controls the league.

Clearly, the players control the league this off season.

@RicBucher FWIW: disparate opinions among gms, agents, league HQ officials today about LBJ, but consensus on 1 thing: it's not Mia.

At this point, just speaking for myself, who cares? I'm not watching. This sucks, the NBA sucks, and I have had enough of this junk.

Despite rampant speculation that #Lebron to Miami is a done deal, I maintain from a trusted source #Lebron will be a member of the #Knicks
